Water inside hull

I noticed I can here water inside the hull at the back of the boat when the boat is shaken on the trailer. Its not inside the bilge, but inside the hull itself. Possible under the splashwell? I have a 210CC. What should I do to get the water out?

Phil

Phil, The splash well on a 210 has two pockets with a plates screwed down and sealed with Rule. It's possible that these areas have water in them. Unscrew the plates, and remove the plates [not easy] remove any water and reseal with Rule. These pockets add strength to the transom, much like an egg crate. Older boats had a plug of foam in the areas that did nothing. You can remove them if you want.

i have an'01 logic 210cc and i found that once water got inside the 2 holes dick mentioned, the foam plugs that the factory had installed acted as corks and actually helped cause the rule to fail around the holes.
i suggest once you take all the screws out that you go take a break/or give the boat an hour so if there are foam plugs inside they will pop the lid off and you will not have to work as hard to get them off.
i did not put the foam plugs back inside the holes and used almost 2 tubes of rule to reseal the lids. some guys have installed small inspection plates in these lids and vaccuum the water out if if it returns and i will do the same once i find some small plates.
tip-- Rule sealant will run away from the lip the lids sit on if it is hot outside. didnt see where you were from before i responded but the cooler the temp the better the rule will stay put . i also aded twice the factory screws when i redid the lids-- 1 between each fac screw
regards
berto

On the old forum someone posted pictures of their modification of these cavities. I can't remember who it was but they had clear "screw off" access inserts that (as mentioned above) allowed them to unscrew these and vacuum out any water that had gotten in. If that poster is on this forum and could upload those pictures and instructions again, I'm sure many of us would very much appreciate it.

I took the covers off mine earlier this year, insert the foam blocks and resealed with lots of rule. I haven't opened them back up but I'm pretty sure water has gotten back in. So I'd like to do the modification I mentioned above. Thanks guys!

water in splashwell

I pulled the plates in my splashwells and found them full. Cleaned up, resealed and hoped for the best. After several trips I drilled access holes and found them half full. Pumped out the water and threaded the holes for 1/2 inch pipe plugs. This simplified water removal but didn.t address the problem. After much thought I decided that the wells needed to be filled but not with foam or anything else that may hold water. Did some internet searching and found a sports supply house that was having a closeout on 18 inch vinyl liners for some kind of ball. I bought 4 inch, screw in access plates (like the kind used by the factory) and installed them in the splashwell covers. I then put the uninflated balls in the wells and blew them up, and closed the access plates. Have checked several times and the balls are still inflated so the cavities are still empty!

Thanks Bayourunner! That was the mod I was looking for. I'm going to use your mod this time. Where did you get the access ports?

I too found that problem with my 210. What I did was upon removing the covers I cleaned up that black stuff they sealed it with (I doubt it was rule) and vac'ed and cleaned them. Then when I went to reseal I put a thick bead of clear rule around the lip then used the next size larger screw (the original seemed a bit fine) and put one more between each of the existing screws. After I had the cover reseated I filled the space around the edge of the cover with another large bead of rule. I have not had water reneter.

On my 210, splashwell covers really did not fit well in the spalsh. I had to repair three times. On the 4th attempt I took 1/4 plastic sheeting and cut to the exact size of the splashwell. I used cardboard to make pattern. I use rule and installed the plastic. I screwed them down on the corners being careful not to interfer with the screws on the original plates. As I was screwing down the plastic plastes I could heard to air being forces our underneath the plastic. I knew then I had an air tight fit. After installing the plastic plates, I reinstalled the original plates using more rule on top of the plastic. After a year now I don't have any water in the transom cavity.
