Question wiring problem

Hi guys. Just reinstalled my on board charger and two batteries to the boat, which has been in storage since last November. For some reason I can trim my Suzuki 140DF motor down but not up at the remote control box. At the motor I can trim it up or down. I obviously have something wired wrong.

I hooked up the positive line from the motor to a Perko switch (1, 2, All). Line 1 goes to Battery 1. Line 2 to Battery 2. I hooked up the negative line from the motor to battery 1. I hooked all the electronics and everything else to battery 2.

Any ideas? Thanks for any help. I'm much better at computers and websites than I am at wiring boats.

sounds like when you were adding the batteries you may have pulled the quick release connector partually apart or worse the wire come loose from the shift leaver. look for the wires coming out of the bottom of the shift lever and follow them down to the white connectot that connects them to the wires coming from the motor. check to see if the connector is connected together goodhave some push the buttom while you wiggle connector and up at the lever

Randy, you may want to check the rocker switch on the throttle handle also. I assume that is the one that is only working one way. Those switches are subjected to the salt air more and one of the contacts could be corroded enough to stop the current flow.

Good luck. I don't think it has anything to do with you installing the batteries wrong. It's the remote switch for sure. Just need to find why.

All the wiring seems in tact. I'll check the rocker switch tonight. Thanks for the response guys. I love this site!

Well I checked the wiring again and it looks in tact. I also dismantled the throttle handle and the rocker switch was enclosed and it seemed to be fine unless it has just gone bad. I guess I'll have to haul the boat to Merritt Marine to get them to take a look.

Sorry the advice was not good on the rocker switch. Did you try tracing the wires from the rocker into the console to check for current flow when activated? That will tell you if the switch is bad and save the service charge if it is. Replacing the switch is easy as you have probably already noticed.

Good luck with it. Aren't boats fun!

I read somewhere that the dashboard switches on my 2001 Logic 17 ft. c/c have circut breakers on them. where are they, and how do you make them work? PIRATE PETE

Hi Pete,

I don't own a 17 Logic but if the breakers are similar to all the other Triumph boats, they are the black buttons above or below the switch. Just push it in to reset, if it has tripped.

Trim Problem

I would take the cowl off and unhook the wires going to the trim motor and check continuity to the switch. Toggle up and down to see if it is forward. Small wires break strands and will not allow enough amps to move the motor.

Putershark just reminded me that I never followed up on the fix for this! Sorry guys. This problem was on my first 210. If I remember correctly it was a problem with a bad rocker switch and was covered under warranty.
