listing to port

I too have the same problem on my new 215 (2006). **** I thought I was going to flip it the other day when I hit some boat wakes. Seems the boat rides high in the water compared to a fiberglass boat. I'm not sure what I can do. Gotta figure out something. Is the tourque tab adjustable? Help! Going to organ inlet in a month. That place is dangerous enough with out the boat listing. Does the trim tabs cause it???

I put trim tabs on my boat since my earlier post and it has made a world of difference as to taking out the leanto the left!! if you adjust them wrong you def. can worsen the list to port but if correctly adjusted they will take the list completely out. but be careful esp. at oregon with trim tabs that you dont drop em too low on the following seas coming into the inlet --for you will crash into the foward wave set if the bow is too trimmed down--scarry esp. there in winter striper fishing .
i will be there next month looking for cobia in the tide riff as well. hope to see you there

boat wakes

I also have trim tabs and I can get the list out but the problem is when i cross someones wake it dips violently to the left. Sure I can slow down and ride across them slow but should not have to. I used to battle tug boat wakes in an 18 ft center console and did not have as much trouble. I wonder if the wtaer catches the one trim tab set to take out the tourque and really plows the left side down. Talked to Carl today at Merritt Marine and he is going to check into it with me. Love the boat in clean water and I know it should handle better in chop. It's down right scary at times. I'll let ya know if I solve the mystery.

Surprised with the posts about the 215 being squirrelly. I've had my boat out three times, while not in offshore waters, in some fairly severe delta chop with currents and wind gusts of up to 40 mph last Sunday. We only found it necessary to slow down for spray, not for any boat handling problem and we had some wild waves and some major wakes since the "fleet" was out on a yacht club event. We even commented on how little we were affected by windage in the severe weather.

As for trim tabs, I installed Bennett 18x9's and find that I can make the boat list to port or starboard up to a difference of maybe 25 degrees at speeds above 10 mph. They're great!

Carl is working on my boat now and it just needs some fine tuning. Man am I relieved. Can't wait to jump some wakes and hit some waves. Turns out that from time to time on a new boat the hulls need a little adjustment to get them to run true. Take out a litte wedge here and hook there. Sounds like a race car adj. and I got a great pit crew. The guys at Merritt are the best. I'll post when I get the boat back and water test it. I get to keep the 4 blade SS prop also which is great news.

I have an 2003 210 with a Honda 130. When the boat was new I never had the problem with lean while on plane. But after about 1 year the boat began to lean to the port side. I called triumph and I also was told that it was torque over steer. After me and the customer service rep from Triumph had a long discussion that "torque over steer just does not occur over nite. It was figured out that the hull being made of plastic can tens to distort while sitting on the trailer. The fix was trim tabs.

All is good but when on plane, boat lists to port. Drives me nuts. This occurs with 2 people of equal weight in both seats. Suggestions besides trim tabs?
Will a "Dole-fin" or like device help?

Spoonman
Spoonman, Have you cured this? I have the same problem on the 2003 210 I just bought used. The previous owner installed trim tabs to cure it but it causes the boat to take a slightly nose down cruise where it cuts the water about two feet ahead of the console and plows thru the waves instead of riding slightly up them. I talked to Dick at Merrick and checked the starboard rear of my boat to find what I call a ducktail between the stakes on the starboard side which cause the list to port at speed. There apparently is a fix which involves sanding 7-8" forward of the transom back to the transom till the list goes away.

We have a 200 merc optimax on our 03' 210 which is only 50lbs under the max weight, and we used to have problems getting on plane, if someone was in the stern they'd have to go to the bow.We thought maybe we had water in our inner hull so we did what most on this site with the same problem did.We did the inner hull drain mod, and drilled. In the end our main problem was our prop pitch, we use a 17 daily or a 19 when we're loaded up for a few days out.
