210 Listing To Port

I have a 2003 210 cc with a Suzuki 140 4-stroke.

All is good but when on plane, boat lists to port. Drives me nuts. This occurs with 2 people of equal weight in both seats. Suggestions besides trim tabs?
Will a "Dole-fin" or like device help?

I had the same issue on my old 210 (torque steer) till I backed off on the prop (too much bite) pitch and I managed to regain some of the top end speed I had lost. Here again, I had a 200 HPDI which is just a lot of engine to hang on the back any 210...

What is your WOT RPM and WOT speed? That would be a good starting place to try and correct this issue but no, the cavatation plates do little for top end speed. Like most lift devices (if you get one that has a huge wing like surface) can shave off a few knots of top end speed if one is not careful. It is almost impossible to generate lift without a drag penality be it in the Air or Water, but I have found that the BMS plates seem to give the greatest return in lift for least amount of drag.

Top speed with WOT is around 35mph
I cruise at (in perfect conditions) 27-8 mph at 5000 rpm
I can't remenber rpm's at WOT right now.

Have you adjusted the trim-tab above the prop - under the cavitation plate? Right-hand-turning props create torque and will 'push' the hull to port. Almost like it is leaning with more weight on port. The trim-tab is meant to counter this. Mine is set 1/8" to starboard with a 130HP on a 190Bay.

Question Port lean at speed

The tab you speak of which is located above the prop, when you say 1/8" to starboard do you mean the back of the tab is to the starboard side? Or is it the front is to starboard?

Thanks.

Mine is back toward starboard. But you know, I may have the prop torque causing the hull to lean to port mixed up. Anyhow, my 130HP Honda trim-tab fin on my 190Bay is 1/8" to starboard. Also, the 190 prolly will respond more dramatically to adjustment as the 210 drafts more water.

I went out and carefully examined the trim fin and found that when facing it from the rear there are a set of pointers in front of the trim fin. I assume their there to allow an owner to trim the motor for torque offset.

One is at the base of the trim fin, moving with the trim fin and the other is not moveable, stamped on the lower unit.

I will move the trim fin pointer toward port which will move the back edge of the trim fin to starboard. I've scribed 1/8" increments on the lower unit to make it easier to adjust until I find the right amount. I expect it will take several adjustments to balance the forces.

Between this and getting all the water out of the inner hull I expect/hope my performance will be much closer to what it was when new.

Hey Dansko,

I too have a 210 with 140 Suzuki. I have no torque steer issues. My trim fin is set slightly to port (rear edge to starboard). I also have hydraulic steering, do you?

Remember the Suzuki has a WOT RPM range at 6200. If you cannot reach those numbers, maybe you need to look at less prop pitch. Mine came with a factory 19P. I had it repitched for $60 to a 17 and it works much better, reaches top end of RPM range and gets on plane faster. Once you have the list problem figured out, look at your prop for better performance. My top speed is close to 40 mph measured by GPS.

Hope these ideas help.

i too was obsessed at getting to 6200 rpms with my 140 johnson 4s. however as carl at merritt explained to me if you run 'em at 6200 ,you gonna wear them out that much sooner.i have mine pitched to get to 56-5700 wot and still get on plane and can get the push i need to punch thru headon swells and following seas. the beauty of the propulse 4 blade adjustible prop is you can go from 5200 to overlimit with 1 prop.
depending on whatever your situation ,there is a setting that will work for that situation

suzuki has to get 6200 rpms to get to the 140 hp rating. that my friend is wide open!!!
most 210's optimum rpm range is between 38 and 4200 for best miles per gallon with the zukes and johnson clones.
just my 2 cents
robert
