Question Toggler Bolts

I have been trying to install my downrigger on my 21 CC, but am having trouble with the toggler bolts trying to get through all that foam. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Also, I feel uncomfortable going out with a kicker motor. Yet the spec said the total weight cannot exceed 500 lbs on the transom. I can't imagine someone hasn't solved this problem. I don't know how much the 140 HP Johonson weighs.

I am located in Monterey, Calif.

Thanks,
Gene

Hi ,
and nice name. (real name that is.) As for the down riggers, look at the top of the web site. click on search, type in down riggers. You will see I think 4 topics on it, plus at least one has instalation info.
As for the kicker do the same, someone here on this site has installed one.

My Johnson operators manual lists the weight of the 140 as 410 - 421 pounds depending upon model.

Kickers on 210

Hey Gene - We are neighbors - I live in the Santa Cruz Mtns and have an 03 210 w/ 140 Suzuki. You must have purchased that 210 I saw on Hwy 101 for a while.

Anyhow, I have a Yammy 9.9 4S kicker and haven't noticed much problem. Boat lists a bit and waterline is right at the splashwell scupper, but I just came back from a week long camping/fishing trip in BC and it worked like a champ. I am going to write a Forum post on the experience but haven't had time.

The 210 I purchased was from WA (used) and had a very nice, beefy, thru bolted kicker mount (not movable like the Garelicks). I used a ss tie rod (Panther marine) bent to fit both motors near the transom so I can steer from the console. Alternative is the EZSteer which goes on the lower units. Anyhow, I'm happy as a clam.

You ought to look at some of Codfish's posts on the subject of kickers - he's a real resource (lives in Oregon) - I picked his brain on the subject before I got completely set-up. I suspect we'll see each other on Monterey Bay sometime - Salmon action has been good I hear. But I'm on a river raft trip in MT next week, so it will be late July before I get out there again.

Hello Gene,

I have made both installations you mention. As far as the downriggers, I used a wood type paddle drill bit to muck out the foam. I just moved it around inside the space needed for the toggler, broke up the foam, and then vacumned it out with my shop-vac. I then installed the toggler and refilled the void space with spray foam in a can. I was not concerned with flotation, just didn't want salt air to get to the metal parts.

I have done the kicker install also. Some photos are posted in my album. This install is a little more complicated but can be done by anyone with a few simple tools. It is the bracket itself that requires some expertise in manufacture.

Feel free to send a private message if you would like more info.

As far as the weight issue, my manual for '04 210CC states 550 lbs transom weight. I have '04 Suzuki 140 4S with power trim/tilt. Weight is 420. My 7.5 Honda 4S kicker is around 65 lbs. Easily under even the 500 lb limit you mention. A modern 4S 9.9 outboard with electric start and power trim/tilt still does not weigh 100 lbs. If you do have the 550 lb limit, you could go with one of those and make the limit. My bracket weighs around 15 lbs, still under the 550 limit for all components.
