New Member - Storage box drainage

This is too cool! I'm so glad to have found a place where support and ideas can be exchanged. My brother-in-law and I bought an '04 2100 and have have nothing but praise so far. I live in SoCal and generally case the tuna in season and fish all other coastal waters when not.

I was wondering if there are any ideas out there to improve the drainage of the three in deck storage/fish boxes. We prefer to keep fish in the two side boxes foward of the CC. These drain into the bilge so we currently plug them up and use a pump at the end of the day to clean them out. The drains are very small and appear to be difficult to access from the bilge. I would like to either install a macerator or some other sort of drainage. Has anyone put any thought into this?

Dick...can you add something here?

Hi Mario! I'm glad you found us. I think the drain issue is one all of us would like to find a good answer to. There was a modification posted at the old site and maybe Dick at Merritt Marine can give some input too. There has got to be an effective retrofit to make these boxes drain better without fish smell in the bilge. Of course I wish I had more fish in the box to smell in the bilge. (Note to self...GO FISHING!)

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

We have also had complaints about the fish box drains. The older 21's drained thru the hull and had flip plugs installed. We replaced the plugs with the screw in type since they kept poping out under way. You can retrofit newer boats by drilling thru the hull and installing screw plugs, but, it is critical that the holes are drilled at kiss off points [where the inner and outer hull's are joined]. You can look at a older hull and take a measurement. As a last resort, after our boat sale, I'll measure one here and post it. With this mod. you can drain overboard while running or on the trailer, but the boat will never smell the same.

Thanks for the input Dick. When you do get the time please provide some measurements and additional details of this modificaiton. It's a drag having to pump out 30gal of fish gunk at the end of a long day on the water.
