A good idea except the swim ladder would be under water from the extra weight. I won't go any further, I still love the boat.

Question Any update on the spalsh well warranty fix?

Hi Randy,

Do you have any updates regarding the warranty fix? I contacted Triumph via their website weeks ago but they never replied to me. I'll call them.

Patrick

Patrick,

I have sent a few emails about it myself and your note prompted me to send another. It must have been sidetracked with the 235 flurry this summer. I'll let you know what I find out.

Triumph fix - improved?

Hello all! New to the forum and hopefully soon to have an old 15' Sportsman.

Looking at the problem and assuming the fix from Triumph will be a rotomolded HDPE "plug" then once the cavity is cleaned out and the plug installed it possible could be welded in which if done corretly should stop any water from entering. I weld a lot of plastic in at my job so I find the idea of owning a HDPE boat I can easily weld on to be very interesting.

Welcome aboard Reddog. You should enjoy owning a Triumph if you weld plastic. There wont' be anything you can't do with these boats. Seriously though it is very easy to fix scratches and gouges (when you hit the dock and scrape across something) by using roplene welding rods. I'm working on a Maintenance and Modifications DVD that shows how to do this by folks at the factory and at my dealer, Merritt Marine.

Yes the insert will fill the void but I hadn't actually thought about welding it in. I'll pose that idea to Triumph and see what they say. Only boats prior to May 2005 would need these plastic inserts though. On my first Triumph I actually used a modification that another member here suggested and used the deck plates to be able to screw them off and vacuum out water from time to time. But sealing them tight and not having to worry about it at all is a much better idea. I'll let you know what I find out.

Here is the word from the factory. Makes sense to me.
Quote:
Yes. It is possible to weld the plates into the splashwell of a 215 but
it is not that easy to do. The plates are high density
polyethylene-HDPE and the hull is linear low density polyethylene-LLDPE.
It is difficult to get perfect weld due to the slightly different
melting points. We prefer the use of a more flexible sealant like Rule
Elastomeric or Butyl rubber caulk.

maybe dick could sell us some lldpe covers cut out of those hulls he has in the back of his store and we could weld those holes shut---hey it might even give us some buoyancy having an airspace back there

Well I just started this project today. We purchased two Beckson Pry-Out Deck Plates, color: White, Texture: Smooth, Size: 6”, Mfr # DP61W.

We removed the eight screws that attach the deck covers to the boat and both sides were straining against the screws to come up.

After we removed the foam objects that were in each cavity, we held our nose and measured the water depth. Starboard side had water almost 5 inches deep and the port side was over 7 inches deep.

We have cleaned the covers and now get to clean the voids.

While this is not my idea of fun, this is my pride and joy, so I will do the best job I can.
