I must say I realy enjoy my boat, but when I keep it in a slip and it rains the boxes fill with water. It's embarassing to have to sit there and scoop water out at the marina. The lids have been replaced with the locking type but they do not line up properly and the gaskets are always messed up. What have you guys done to fix this, Dick a little help here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and have a great day, Tom |

bluefishbones,
are they filling up from the rainwater or are they leaking from the poor plugs? I kept mine in the water for a week at a time a few times. When it rains there is a little water that gets in, but doesn't usually fill the boxes. and if it does, so what, it's not gonna sink your boat. just pull the plugs while moving with the boat and the water will drain out, then put the plugs back in while still in motion. definitely make the drain modifications, it's a huge improvement and not hard to do at all! I also have a 2001 210cc. |

2 points to make regarding our 2001 boats the lid gaskets are glued down and like you mine creep all over the place. the newer models have dovetail grooves cut in the lids and the gasket is also flared to fit the dovetail. i was unaware of this until i saw an '06 and other members bought it to my attention that triumph has been doing this for several model years. i had thought of getting a miter and cutting this dovetail into my lids and getting some gasket material from dick, but some owners have stated that this setup isnt exactly perfect either so i'm at an impass as to what to do. do you have the screw in plastic sea dog style box drains and if so how long have they been there. i had to re-rule all my mine due to water entering the boxes from the outside --not so much water from the deck. some of the earlier models had rubber stopper style box drains that leaked like crazy --that's why i asked what style you have. you may need to re- rule them or as i did replace the back floor ones with the brass style as calico has pictured. they have done wonders at stopping incoming water as compared to the plastic ones. front 2 and port rear are next on my to do list to replace with brass as well Robert

I'll double check next time I’m in the water but if my memory serves me the front boxes get drilled right at the spot where the tubes that lead to the bilge are. You can always drill a tiny pilot hole up from the bottom to be sure your behind the deflectors but I’d certainly drill the big hole from above as the fit is tight in the forward fish boxes you really need to be dead center side to side for the flange on the garboard plug to fit flush . Also in my boat pulling the plugs wont drain the boxes while underway like pulling the bilge plug does. But as I type this I can only recall checking the rear fish boxes so maybe the fronts work better. |

Thanks For the response I have the upgraded lids with Groved notches for the gaskets. The big problem is the way they match with the deck. When you shut the covers the back near the hinges seem too high. Some reworking of the height of the back ridge where the lid touches would do a world of good. Grind and plastic weld. Anybody know how thick the plastis there is?
