I spoke with Customer Service at Triumph a few weeks ago. They said that it is not a Warranty fix unless you have some blockage (crimping) in the tubing leading from the boxes. This is a known situation that occurs occasionally during the molding process. He said the tubes are small because of the design. They are meant to be this way to keep fish gunk from entering the bilge area. The person at customer service said the best fix was to drill holes through the bottom, place stainless steel drains in there and fill the existing drain holes with roplene. Also, suggested the fish box liners. They are not that expensive. I received a quote for 4 and it was $248.59. I think I am going the fish box liner route.

I was to the point that I was ready to put the fish box drains in on my own. I went to the Triumph website and sent an email to customer service to see if they could give me advice on doing the modification.
This is the message I sent to Triumph: Message: "I have a 2004 Triumph 210 and would like to add thru-hull drains to the 4 fish boxes as well as thru-hull drains in the two rear boxes under the passenger seats. Can you give me instructions on how to do this including how to locate the correct drill placement location?. I would appreciate your help. Thank you". I got the following reply just now from Bryant XXXX of Triumph Boats: "Sorry but a upgrade like this can only be done by a master service center if you want to keep the warranty". This sort of adds a level of confusion from earlier threads that indicate there's no warranty problems if you install them yourself. |

Keep in mind that this is an owners site where we share information and tips. None of those tips or information should be construed as official information from the manufacturer. Only Triumph and their dealers can speak with authority to warranty issues. So please remember that ANY and ALL questions regarding warranties should be handled through a a dealer or with Triumph directly.
If Triumph says it must be done by a Master Dealer to keep the warranty in tact, then that is the answer. I certainly understand their perspective on only wanting dealers trained in cutting and welding Roplene to handle those modifications. I personally wouldn't want to make a modification like that myself and I sure wouldn't want to do anything that would affect my lifetime warranty on the hull. So this is a good reminder for all to do what Fishin DC's has done, contact your dealer or Triumph to get the final word before you make a modification that can affect the hull. Triumphowners.net accepts no responsibility for the use of information or tips found on this owners site. If you make a modification to your boat you do so at your own risk. So check with your dealer or with Triumph if there is any question about your warranty. I hope I've communicated this clearly enough.

randy makes a very valid point and that is if the boat has a factory warranty , you should make sure not to do things yourself that coud void your warranty. i try to state in any mod message i post or somewhere in the discussion that i have a Q2 model without a warrenty, therefore whatever i do --i'm on my own!!! that being said ,i have a wonderful dealer that has "got my back" and has helped in many aspects of my mods. mine was a cost of investment issue and i got what i paid for---heck of a hull that i was able to bring up close to current model specs at about a third current costs. would i have loved a new 'em-- you betcha, do i know more about the 210 from bowlight to foam drain, dang right . and, that knowledge makes me more secure on the water and with a drimmel tool in my hand!!!!!

master service center! that was the easiest and first modification I made, took out the chincy plugs in my Logic and installed threaded drain plugs. Logic had the drains in the floor to begin with, not sure why Triumph ever changed this but obviously it was a huge mistake.
pretty simple to do and I don't know why they require this to be done by a techinician but I guess you better follow their instructions. once again I might add, that Triumph had no problem cashing my check for warranty transfer and I'd fight them all the way if they tried to back out of warranty since I to this day I have never been mailed any type of written explanation of warranty inclusions/exclusions. sorry if I sound a bit harsh, but I don't think this is unreasonable or legal and right now it leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth hearing this from Triumph. furthermore Triumph monitors this site(and get many upgrade ideas from us) and are fully aware and even encourage members to check it out, this is why I bought my bought in the first place! At a boat show in Vermont the Triumph rep told me about the site. now they are trying to say don't fix things yourself, which is one of my favorite things about this site! please give me a break!! |
