Angry Fish box drains

Has triumph come up with a proper solution to the fish boxes that dont drain, or drain too slowly?
my dealer is of no help.
Thank for the help.

Diehard,

I can only convey what Merritt Marine did to help me. They installed the thru hull bottom type drains, they really do make life a lot easier as they communicate directly thru the bottom of the boat instead of having fish parts in the bilge. We installed these drains in all four fish boxes and the rear port storage compartment. With the boat stored in the garage, the last thing my wife wanted was to smell dead fish all the time.

Hope this helps,

Although I think most of us would agree the fish box drainage is a design flaw it is not a defect, so not a warranty issue which leaves the fix up to us. In reality its not to difficult once you get over the trauma of drilling a hole in the bottom of your boat. I’ve done the 4 main holds (not the mega) My boat is a 2003 210CC .

here is a copy of a PM I sent one of the guys hope it helps.I I drilled thru my hull I located the spot just aft of the small triangle lumps on the bottom of the hull I’m sure they have a name they must be to divert water flow in the older boats that come with small thru hull drains. I used the brass 2” garboard plug like you find on pg. 537 of boaters world 2005 master catalog. I used a 15/16 paddle bit and saved the shavings for future repairs. Match your stainless screw length to the hull thickness as its different front to back. They take a ½” threaded plug I found a short length 12 or 18” of ¾” square aluminum tubing makes a great handle / socket to use on the square heads of the plugs. I sealed up the drain tubes to my bilge with rubber plugs and rule sealant. You will want to use rule on everything. I’ve been very pleased with the result.
Good Luck

your not alone. I had a hard time just getting the nerve to make the needed holes to mount my electronics.. Then I got the outrigger set up. It took me almose a yr to get the nerve to drill holes in my gunnels to mount the outrigger holders, but they are mounted and the rubber capping job i did to seal them has kept the water from getting into the gunnels.

fish box drains

i too have a 2002 210cc and have the same concerns with the drains, both the fish boxes and the storage compartments. I talked to a dealer south of Melbourne, FL for insstructrucions for modifying the drains and he told me if i did it myself, i would void any warrenty on the hull, so i dropped the matter. anywone else have a similar experience? i would really like to have more guidance on installing those drains. i boat in the cheasepeake bay and indian/banana rivers.

thanks

Thumbs down 2001 Logic

I have a 2001 with the drains in the bottom only, and when in the slip and rain fills the boxes die to crappy fit of the lids. This is in my opinion, a lousy design.

FLSnowbird, We at MM have converted many 210 fishboxes back to the origional design since some guys don't want any fish stuff in the bilge. We drill a small hole up from the bottom, just behind the deflectors, then with a 7/8 drill, down from the fishboxes. we then coat the hole with Rule, and install the factory type plastic threaded base and plug. Plug the small drains to the bilge with Rule. You can do this yourself. This will not impact the hull warranty.

guys, while i was at the Mackfest i happened to show a couple of guys at triumph my install of the thru hull box drains. to my surprise they had never seen this mod. they immediately began talking as to what if this or that kissoff were done---very encouraging, yet this mod is something i would have thought would be known to them. we owners should continue to come up with the things the factory will be able to incorporate to make the boats better. bet the owner who came up with the hinged mega cover had gotten a patent---wonder if it would have made it to the production models if he had. i'm gonna continue to seek to improve my boat with the help of everyone and hope the engineers at triumph are made to make our site a required reading segment of their day
