anchor hatch locking problems

my 05 210 anchor hatch does not stay locked/closed anymore on account of the latching ledge pulling out of the roplene. After looking at the screws that held this piece in the roplene, with no reinforcements for the plastic, I am not surprised that this happened. I think that part of the reason for this happening is due to the fact the anchor beats around in the compartment whenever I hit a wave. I do not store the anchor on the roller because I like the idea of having a breakaway anchor in case I need to fight a fish. If anyone has any solutions to these issues I would love their input.

Fran35, I assume by "breakaway anchor" you are referring to one that has a float at the end of the rode so you can cast it off to go fight a fish.

Here in the Northwest we use that type of anchor when fishing rivers for salmon or sturgeon. It is completely seperate and different though from the boat safety anchor mounted on the bow pulpit. I keep my breakaway in a plastic tub with the rode and float. I also keep my safety anchor mounted on the roller like most of the 210 owners do.

You might consider a second anchor system altogether, then mount your danforth type on the bow roller and do away with the potential for damage to the locker and the latch. Just a thought.

To keep my danforth tight in the roller but easily deployable, I used a SS carabiner to fasten a heavy duty rubber snubber to the rode chain at a point where it has good tension when hooked over the cleat inside the locker. Easy to release but holds the anchor tight even in the roughest ocean.

I used to store mine in the compartment , until it broke a hole in the bottom, Mine is out on the nose as she should be now, as for ease of break away, codfish's info sounds great.

Try Aluminum

I HAVE BEEN USING A FORTRESS ALUMINUM ANCHOR SINCE '01 AND IT HAS DONE AN EXCELLENT JOB IN ALL BOTTOM CONDITIONS. IT EVEN BENT ITSELF OUT OF A ROCKPILE . LIGHT ENOUGH TO RIDE IN THE COMPARTMENT. STRONG ENOUGH TO HOLD YOU

I forgot to mention that the cast away anchor system also acts as an anchor puller when it is time to quit. The float has a one way roller pinch that allows the rode to be pulled up but doesn't let the anchor fall down when tension is released. You simply pull up the anchor by hooking the bitter end to your rear cleat and motor away from the float until the anchor reaches the top. Any type of anchor that holds in your bottom type will work. Here we use a non typical looking one with double rocker arms that hold good in the large river rocks. We also use the anchor trouble release as described by others in one of the anchor posts.

You east coast guys should check them out.

Anchor on Pulpit

How do you keep your Danfort Anchor tines from digging into your bow when snubbed down with the heavy rubber cord to the locker clete?

I tried to prevent it but no success.

My tines, or blades are short enough that they do not contact the hull when snugged up to the anchor pulpit. There are some photos of anchor mods that show my size anchor and how it rides.

If you would like, I can post some pics of mine. Let me know.
