235

I just bought a 235 with one of my buddies, who is an employee at triumph. Let me tell you guys something, this boat is the real deal. I have grown up my whole life with a boat ranging from 17 feet to 27 feet and this is by far the best riding boat in bad weather (much better than my dads mako 23). It is a HUGE 23, I can't believe that I will still qualify for the 23 and under class for tournaments. I haven't been able to take it out too much but we did got to the Big Rock Saturday, two weekends ago. Yeah that is the same day the tropical storm was blowing up. The forcast was horible, 4-5 inshore and 5-7 offshore but we were determined. We got out there and got into the mahi in the 15-25 lbs class. We got 7 in the boat and probably lost at least that many. The waves were so big that the tips of my outriggers would submerge in the water when we would troll broadside to the waves. We were by far the smallest (and probably stupidest) boat out there but it handled great. There were a couple 23 Sea Fox's or some high production cheap boat, that tried to follow us out but stoppped when they couldn't keep up. I have been reading the threads and have meant to post sooner but just haven't had the time. Yes the boat is a lot more expensive than the 21 but it is a whole different ball game. Before I got the 235, We would take out the company 21 outrage. Great boat. That thing could take a licking but the V on the bottom was very shallow. The 235 is a deep V that cuts through the waves rather than bouncing off of them. The 235 opens up a whole new world of fishing and I believe is going to really take off when people understand what they are getting. If you guys have any questions post a reply or something and I would be happy to answer it. Hope to see a lot of you in July for the tournament. Oh and it's kind of cool, the boat that we bought was the factory demo. It is the same boat that they took all of there pictures for advertising and the same boat they took to all of the boatshows. Stay dry and I hope this answered a few of your questions.

Can't wait to see. Thanks for the first hand report blue_water_man. Post some more pictures in the 235 gallery when you have a chance.

Re Pics

I will post some pics as soon as I can, the boat is at the dealer getting downriggers and flat lines put on. It has been nice that the two modifications are the ONLY thing I could think of to make it more fishable. Come on I know some of you guys have some questions so don't be shy.

Blue Water, maybe you could post some pics of the bait station, console, storage, etc. when you have a chance? Many of us haven't had a chance to see it and the more details we can see the better.

I understood that fish boxes on the 235 would be equipped with a macerator pump to flush any water and grind up any fish parts/trash. They do not drain to the bilge, correct?

I'll try to put some baitstation pics up this weekend. Since the boat is in town I am taking it to Kerr Lake sunday. It is a great fishing boat (why I got it) and is also a great cruising boat (why my wife let me get it). There is plenty of seating for 8 and the boat will still run 40 mph with 8 people. The only thing I miss is the gas milage that the 215 got with the 150 E-Tec. The 250 Yamaha is thirsty but then again is is a lot of boat. I was told that at cruise, 4500 RPM it burns 12 gallons per hour and wide open, 6000 RPM, it burns 19 gallons per hour. When we went to the Big Rok a couple of weekends ago we burned about 62 gallons and we travelled almost 130 miles total that day. When 3 people split the bill it realy isn't too expensive. Sorry got off track a little. The fish boxes do have emaciator pump outs and they do not drain into the bilge. The baitwell is also on a pump out system too.

Thanks for the posts blue_water_man. Could you also include pics of your downrigger installation. What Brand and Model are you installing ? Would like to get a set of downriggers as well if I end up buying the Triumph 235. So, the boat really cuts through the waves that well ? The channel here gets really ruff at times and I wanted my next boat to be able to handle the swells fairly well. How wet did you guys get out there ? Do you have the Eisenglass enclosure ? Also going on a test ride out here in Southern California within the next week or so. Can't wait.

We did not have the canvas on that day but mananged to stay pretty dry on the way out. When we got out there the wind was houling so it blew a bunch of water on us when it was coming from the side. The boat has a very nice "carolina flair" that I think you will find very apealing if you fish in rough water. It really does cut through the waves. The 235 is a deep V design that cuts through, rather than bouncing off the waves. As far as the downriggers go I am putting on two Penn Fathom masters on the back. I would strongly recomend gettin the 3 foot arm if you do the same. The only problem with putting them on is that you can't fish the rear rod holders when you have the downrigger on the mount. To fix that problem I am having two more rod holders (a total of 3 rod holders on each gunnel) installed. I am also getting 3 flat line clips put on across the back. If you guys have never fished flat lines before install some before you fish next. It is the cheapest way to avoid tangles and improve the "prop wash" bite. I hope you have a good test drive. I know you will if the boat treats you as well as it has treated me.
