This is my first boat, and as I am new to boating, do I need an extra pump? My bilge pump has only come on once when i was on the water(see pic of storm i got caught in). I do not usually go out more than a couple of miles off shore. I would like to start going out further, as i get more experienced, just want to make sure i have the equipment to get home.

This is a late response but I left my 210 docked during heavy, heavy rains for 2 days with no cover. After the rain stopped, the water was coming out of the bilge. All of the strage lockers were full and a quarter of the large locker up front was full of water. I turned on the engine and started up the bilge to keep the batteries from draining. I then decided to see if the boat would move and self drain the transom area. The boat was sluggish but got up to speed. As the bow came up, more water came out of the bilge and self drained. I was happy. Its a tough boat.

I thought about a spare bilge on board, but opt for a manuel pump..it works just as fast...and no electricity needed. I have not, but should have a spare bait pump.

Special K,
I have a 2004 1700CC and the original bilge pump is still in it and working well. I've been offshore often and in strong rain storms. The bilge pump handled all the water without a problem. I always carry a half gallon bucket that fits in my port rear storage compartment. I can use it to bale water until SeaTow or the Coastguard arrives;I hope.
