Boat light

I am looking for a plug in 12 volt light I could use on my 17cc. One I could clamp to the grab rail in the front of the console and it would illuminate the whole area inside the boat at night. Not a q-beam style flashlight which only lights where it was pointed. I asked at west marine they said they never heard of anything like it. Can't imagine such a simple design wouldn't be on the market yet. Anybody know of such made?

If you are talking about a "Chart Light" type then this is what I use (kind of)

http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs.../9/man/asc/ALL

Mine though just plugs right into the lighter outlet and has a flexible shaft so I can tie on a new jig or crank bait, make a phone call, etc. without out totally killing my night vision. I also have one of those LED headband lights (even has a red bulb) that also comes in real handy at night or early morning when I am hooking up the boat

If you need more light, then I would also look at one of your local off road shops for a Jeep fog light (12 VDC) or something like it that you make a clamp on mount for. Here again, a trip to Lowe's and Home Depot might come in real handy for the Clamp Engineering parts

Are we getting close yet?

Thumbs up Hope this helps a little

Hi Steve, Lots of options here, but I have seen on Ebay numerous times, a rail mounted bow light, battery operated, Looks just like a regular cheapy flashlight with red and green lights for a lens, for maybe 5 bucks, pointed inside the cockpit for low level lighting is easily achieved by a brillo pad on the inside of the lens to cut down on refraction. Sounds like a quick inexpensive trick for you and it's detachable when you get back home, if you would like I'll hunt one down there and give you the listing number, Just my 2 cents, but glad to help if I can.....Dan

I checked that out on ebay, still not quite what I am looking for but I am in no hurry.Looking for a squeeze type clamp to clamp on the handrail that goes around the top of the console. With the style light like that one shown on ebay. And with a clear cover over a white light. Thanks for the info.

You could rig this someway and not have the drain & heat you would have with regular bulbs. You could also put a dimmer on it .
These people have flashlights that turn themselves off if you mistakenly turn them on.

Folks make floundering lights to mount on their bows that just about make their boats look like they are floating on air. I would consider using a Ram mount to some LED deck lights mounted to a PVC tube or you could convert a "HydroGlow" type fluorescent to a cig plug and white bulb. Why not just install some LED deck lights into the console? They use so little amps.
Good luck, Molar
