Example, Chaparral charges $500 to transfer warranty on 24' or less and $1,000 on larger. Most companies charge at least $100 to transfer warranties if they are "transferrable" especially if it has "lifetime" coverage. Most do not cover "blistering" of fiberglass over 3 years as well as many other aspects.
We had a former Triumph Owners Club website, this one is very positive and family friendly. Feel free to post questions and help others.

I still say something smells "fishy" about all this. Triumph probably thinks so too. Is there a way to see the original bill of sale and ask why the first dealer didn't registar the boat's warranty? Make sure the serial #'s match up to the original bill of sale for motor, trailer and boat.

Good luck and I hope your future experience using the boat is less complicated.

I visited your Silverton Owners Club and the Silverton web sites, just so I could try to see and approach things from your point of view.

Based on the Silverton site, that is one fine boat manufacturer. I like their designs and the look of their product. I am just fortunate that our home has a few of the features that are displayed on these boats (the kitchen).

You have stated some of my core beliefs and desires for this Triumph web site. We have always stated that we want dealers and Triumph employees to visit and comment on postings. All we ask is that they identify themselves as such. Our problem is convincing dealers to mention this site to potential customers. I think us owners got a black eye and a bad reputation when the former owners site, in my opinion, went down hill fast. We work hard at keeping this a family friendly site and a site with a positive attitude to help our brother boat owners. In that the boat builder or dealers do not control this site, Randy started the Captain's Club as a way for those of us that benefit from this site can contribute to its financial health instead of asking Randy to bear all of the cost personally.

In honesty, if I had not spent years learning about various manufacturers and Triumph boats, I would probably not know about that transfer fee. Unfortunately, there are many things we discover in this life that are not disclosed, or if they were disclosed, they were not as clear as they could have been.

We wish you well with your new purchase. My wife and I really like our Triumph. Yes, if we could afford it, I am sure she would like to own a Silverton.

OspreyVic,
Let me clarify....they are not MY sites. I just do the web work for the Silverton Owners Club. We are a club, very similar to this one, and we use members that wish to volunteer some time to keep it up and running. We also charge for membership, which is $28.00 per year.
It is too bad you can't get into our forums section ( you need to be a registered member) to see the interaction between Silverton Corporate, dealers and other supplier companies and our members. It is exactly like you are wishing this site to be. Our club president is a woman by the name of Nyla Deputy....she is the driving force behind the club, and actually acts as a liason between the factory and our members.

BTW...you don't have to be wealthy to afford a Silverton. I bought mine for 25K, which is probably less than you paid for yours. You can check out my boat by clicking on the Lucky Find II link here. You may have to have a few pockets full of change to afford the 20 gallons per hour she burns, though.! Thats one reason I am looking for a toy to scoot around Sodus Bay in.

MolarBoater,
That is the main problem with my situation. Even Triumph called the dealer that sold the boat to Mr. X....his answer was he forgot to register it with them. Had that dealer done his job, this problem wouldn't even exist.
Sorry to say that not all dealers are 100%...but I'm sure we all know that.

Albaris, looks like we have ID'd the problem. The Dealer failed to warrantee the boat as required. Triumph corp is trying to open the door back up to you.
Sounds like Triumph is going beyond what's required of them to help out a potential owner. And just maybe since you will be the "first" to warranty the boat, maybe they will let you slide on the "fee".

Boy yeah, gas is high and getting higher. My wife wants a bigger boat with all the amenaties. All I can think of is how much it would cost with maintenance, slip fees and gas, well, it would sit there in the water much more than ran offshore. There's that "hole in the water which one throws money" thing again. But, still cheaper than what condos are going for now on the Gulf coast! Hmmm, might be lookin' for our "Lucky Find" soon.

I will say I do agree with Albaris on one thing, Yamaha is much easier to transfer a warranty than Triumph. I also went thru a similar process with Triumph, however I did not have to get a notarized letter. Furthermore why charge a fee for a transfer of warranty, in my opinion this just starts off the customer-buyer relationship on the wrong foot. It shouldn't cost anything as Triumph has nothing more to do than add a new name and delete an old one!
I also bought a used Triumph with a Yamaha, the Yamaha had an extended warranty thru '08, all that was needed was to send in a simple form. Yamaha then mailed me the warranty. All this for the cost of $ 0.00.

P.S. - I've never received anything in writing from Triumph regarding the warranty that cost me $300(or $400 I don't remember)

Just to bring everyone up to date on my dilema with the Triumph warranty.

On Feb. 19th, I shelled out the $8700 for the boat. The dealer I bought it through was able to get the original owner to sign the bill of sale to me and he had it notarizied. I called Triumph to let them know I had the bill of sale and it was notarized as per their request, and I mailed a copy of the notarizied bill of sale along with a money order for the $200 transfer fee.
On 2/22 I left for 10 days in the Florida Keys, but when I returned home yesterday, there was a message on my answering machine from Triumph congratulating me on my purchase, and they let me know that the boat is now warranteed under my name. I was hoping to get something in writing from them, but I will wait another week to see if that arrives...if not I will call and ask them for it.
So...for now...I am a happy camper, and hopefully I will never need to make use of the warranty.
With respect to the Yamaha, I called, they transferred....done deal. No money, no bill of sale, just a simple, quick phone call.

You can check out the pictures of my new toy on this site under the owners galleries.

Did Yamaha send you a written confirmation of your new warranty coverage too?

I know Triumph keeps theirs on the computer in the warranty department and I have never been given anything in writing. Just called Joe Berhman in warranty, he looks it up on the computer and Bam! Covered.
Hope you enjoyed you boat down in the Keys. Think most of us are ready to get the boats in the water soon. Sounds like you got a good deal all around so far to me.
Enjoy, Emery

Molar Boater...
I did receive a computer printout page of the "Transfer of Warranty" from Yamaha. However I did not receive it directly from Yamaha. I received it from the dealer where I purchased the boat and motor. I verified it directly with Yamaha myself by calling them and asking for the info.
Also, I requested something in writing from Triumph regarding their warranty. They sent me an MS Excel file with a photo captured image of their Warranty look-up screen embedded in it. It shows the transfer is in force under my name.
