FL. Keys
The wife and I are sitting here watching some fishing shows on Sunshine network. For some reason the last three have been in the Keys. Well we have lived here in beautiful Fl for the last 10 years(originally from the great state of Long Island
) and have never been there. We would like to plan a vacation next year to the Keys. If anybody has a suggestion on where to stay or which island to go to we would greatly appreciate it. We would like to stay away from the real touristy areas, really what we want is a nice little bungalow with it"s own boat slip so we can use our own Triumph. Feel free to PM , E-mail me, or just post it here for other who might want to do the same thing. Thanx for any info.

Well, my dive buddy and I went down to the Keys last November and stayed at a place called the Blue Fin Inn in Islamorada. Your wife may not like it because it's nothing fancy. No phone but they have TV and a kitchen area. No docks, bay side. http://www.keylantern.com
There was a FREE "Boat Ramp a few miles South of the at Indian Key Fill. Bay side. about: N24* 53.400' W80* 40.550' This is not like we are use to...a nice concrete ramp. This was limestane, like what the Keys are made of. Four wheel drive would be helpful. Another place you may want to check with was: http://www.ragged-edge.com where they have docks. They were full so we didn't get to stay there. Ocean side. Here is another site that may be helpful: http://www.superiorsmalllodging.com/...s-and-key-west We stayed at the Blue Fin Inn, well, because it was inexpensive and we could save some bucks by cooking some ourselves. There wasn't much in the area, not touristy. Hope that will give you a start. We went for the diving. |

Oh then you are really missing out on one of the best parts of our State!
Purple Island (Islamorada) also gets my vote Brian. The fishing in that location better suits your boat and last time I was down I found this place that had a nice dock to tie the boat up just outside the door of your room http://www.edgewaterlodge.com/lodging.htm. And a bridge close by to go pick a fight with a few Tarpon as well as the Bone Fishing is great in that area also. Before I would go though (maybe a we can plan a joint venture some time) I would consider removing the bow rail so you have more space to go to war with those fish, and install that bow mounted trolling motor you were talking about

islamorada!!!
anywhere, just learn from experience, thats the best way, the Breezy Palms has a dock for your boat and if you find a bad spot...go to a different one next year! the keys are the way florida living is intended to be! |

We travel to the Keys each February. We have stayed at Islamorada, Marathon, Little Torch Key and Key West. The best place we have found and keep going back to is Hawk's Cay Resort, situated between Islamorada and Marathon on Duck Key.
Check out their website here: http://www.hawkscay.com/hcr.asp They offer all the amenites you could ask for, it's modern, food is fantastic, just an all around nice place compared to the many others we have stayed at. They have guestrooms and villas, and you can be located waterside, poolside or right on their own marina. Being centrally located, it makes it an easier stop-over weather traveling north to Key Largo or south to Key West. |
