Just sold my 20 ft grady and i am looking to downsize to the 170cc triumph or 1780dlx carolina skiff.I have been reading posts and have become a little leary about the deformation and water problems on the triumph hulls. Any information on these problems would be greatly appreciated. Have these problems been solved on the 2006 and the 2007 170cc. Thanks for any help on this matter.

170 CC Hull Integrity
Have owned 170 CC since new March 2002. No hull issues at all. I have followed the postings on this site as I have interest in up-sizing some day. Do not remember any discussion of hull water problems or distortion on the 170 line.
Much discussion on the 180 Bay and 210 CC related to the problems you mentioned. We can only continue to follow and try to stay informed. My experience with the 170 has all been good. Breeze to keep clean, looking ship-shape. Soft ride in reasonable seas. Will wet you in a quartering wind with 1-3 slop. Do not know of any 17 ft. that would be dry in these conditions. Liquid Dawn is my choice for clean up. Good luck |

I Have A 2006 150cc Which Is Basically The Same As The 17. Aside From An Initial Stern Planer Problem Which Was Fixed Very Well The Boat Is Smooth As Silk. No Water Intrusion, nothing Broken And It Fits In My Garage Which Is A Big Plus In So Florida. There Are Hull Deflection On Some Boats Including Mine But I Dont See Them Anymore. The Reason I Bought This Boat Over Other Boats In This Size Was Because I Just Liked The Lines (appearance) More Than Any Other. Of Course Thats A Personal Choice We All Have To Make. Good Luck To You On Your Quest.

Hi Fishwish-go To The Forums Section On This Site And Then Go To Discussions Of 150 And Then Scroll Down To" Listing To Port" You Will See The Threads I Wrote About The Subject You Asked About. The Single Most Importsnt Point To All Of This Boat Buying Subject Is A Reputable Dealer. Mine Was Great To Deal With. Why Spend All This Money For A Boat And Then Have To Fix It Yourself.

I own the 150 and my neighbor has a 170 and we work the heck out of these boats salmon fishing, crabbing and bottom fishing they can get and take a real pounding. Fact is I've hit so hard after rocketing over a wave (Yes I was going way too fast) that I swear that if it had been my old glass skiff I'd have split the hull from bow to stern. It sure rattled my back teeth.
Bottom line the 170 my neighbor has has suffered no hull problems, there's also a guy that commercial fishes one out of Trinidad and has had no problems either nor have I with the 150. |

my 170 is solid
I have owned my 170bass for 4 years and have not had any problems with my hull, and I like the deep-v. I wouldn't trade that for a flat-bottomed skiff - they'll pound your but 'till you can't sit down. My boat doesn't draw much water and I'll put it up against any flats boat for fishing skinny water.
Grady Whites an excellent boat, don't expect the same fit and finish from a Triumph. woodNfish |

Great Boats
Fishwish,
I have a 2004 170DC. Great boat! my son and I have been out on the bay with the winds blowing and solid 2-3 ft seas and have never felt uneasy. Great fishing and family fun boat. I looked at a 21 ft Sea Chaser by Car. Skiffs and wasn't pleased with the craftsmanship so I passed, although the price was good. The quality and craftsmanship of the Triumph is unbelievable. On a side note, check the classifieds. My 170DC is up for sale so I can upgrade to a 215 triumph. |

There's no comparison between the Carolina Skiff and the Triumph. I've had the skiffs and have replaced most with 170's. The only advantage with the skiff is that it's wider. It's a totally different ride. I currently have five 170 CC and use them in a rental. They are one tough boat. If I could, I would immediately get five more. We've had no issues so far. Good luck with your choice.
