plastic rusting!

Hey folks, my boat has started getting rust spots on it and so far is impossible to get off. I left the boat down at the beach for most of the summer and the spots started showing up. Never had the problem before (2004 model). I have used 'almost all' of the recommended products for our boats, but can't seem to get these spots off. If I scrub hard enough with a 'green' pad I can make them a little less noticeable, not disappear. Anyone run across this problem a found a solution? Thanks for the help in advance. Don

if you ever did any drilling of metals that will rust ,the metal fileings can get embedded in the pores of the rop and rust will appear . same if you leave hooks or carbon blade knives laying around on the boat surface. w/o a pic of the area it is hard to get more specific

Good point, My fish bag....that is what I call it, had metal little feet, they rusted off and left stains on my rear compartment lids.

I to, have encountered rust stains, Mine are coming from the buttons that attach the seat cushions. Scrubbing w/ any bleach product has zero effect. I am thinking of applying heat w/ a heat gun and sanding it out??? any thoughts??

easy rust solution

I had that problem too,I use either zuds or bar keepers friend (available at grocery or ace hardware).Simply wet the area and sprinkle generously, wait 5 minutes and rub with a damp cloth.Rust comes right off.

Before you do that, try a pressure washer (car wash type works great). It's usually the little holes in the plastic that hold those kind of stains and the pressure washer takes them right out. Just a thought.

Bar Keepers friend works wonders on just about anything. Never used it on my boat. I have no rust spots but if I did it sounds worth a try
