where to flush???

Hey all, I am planning a little trip to the Georgetown area of SC in the spring, i want to go check out Bull Island and play with the flounders, I have been on the salt water several times beore but always had a conveniant place to flush the motor. This trip we will be staying in a hotel, so my question is where can i flush the motor for 15-20 minutes when I am staying in a hotel. Car wash? maybe the hotel? And what precautions should I take with the boat in the parking lot overnight? 'Preciate any advice, and sure wish the rain would go away...

Fropfreak, you asked a very good question.

We have a 15-year-old beagle at home that cannot travel, but when she is gone, wife and I want to be on the go and see more of this great country, with our boat in toe most of the time.

Part of what you ask you have already considered I am sure. Remove all of the electronics and other “stuff” from the boat that you can. No sense making it easy for anyone to walk off with what you paid for. In my case, I can remove the anchor, the Raymarine C120, the Raymarine L1260DRC, and miscellaneous stuff, but almost impossible to remove the Radome Antenna, the VHF radio, and the two Digital antennas.

Once you have removed all that you easily can from the boat, the rest is up to you and your place of lodging. If you call ahead and explain that you will be towing a boat and your concerns, you might get more help than you thought. I have had a motel let me park the boat and tow vehicle next to the front door so it had lights on it all night and was visible from the front desk. You might have to carry your own hose, but they will probably let you use their water for flushing. I think the key is communication with your lodging place in advance and carrying copies of your communication with you at all times (employees change jobs or are on a different shift when you show up).

I hope that others will offer their suggestions. Like you, I need to learn as much as I can.

I always carry my own hose. I have used marina where I launched. the motel where i stayed and gas stations. Always have gotten permission first.

Good luck, I am thinking about that area this spring as well.

We stay at Hunington Beach State Park, just up the road a piece from GT, and fish Murrells Inlet, we did pretty well last year around Easter.
I was talking to a guy there at the campground and he fished the back creeks just above GT, and tore up the Reds and Trout, and had a couple of nice Flounder in the cooler to boot.

We flush at the campsite, but some of the public ramps have fresh water hose bibs to wash down with before you leave. But if they are anything like the ramp at M.I. it gets pretty busy.

Here's a website I found that list the public/private ramps in Georgetown County : http://saltwaterfishing.sc.gov/boatlandings.html I need to locate the two ramps this guy used to fish from, so while we are there this spring I can try it.

Worse case is one of the private ramps would have freshwater, and I am sure for a fee they would let you use it.

Let me know how you do.
Kevin

thanks for the advice and quick responses. I will ask the hotel when I call, I had not considered gas stations.
What about the prop for theft protection?
kevnanama I have been to Huntington beach several times, Atalaya is my dream home. May I also suggest Hunting Island State Park outside Beaufort, SC. I know St Helena and Port Royal well and the spring Cobia run is not to be missed. Best taisting shrimp in the world too, much of "Forest gump" was filmed in the area.

Dear Fropfreak, ( Nice screen name, I wonder?)

I may be going overboard but I would also remove any seats, PFDs, tools, spare parts, coolers and fishing gear from the boat.

Best of luck on your trip!! and post some pictures. Bob
