How long in the Water???

Just wondering how long I could leave a 17CC in the water (Outer Banks) without too much scum building up. We rent a water front house in Pirates Cove for 2 weeks and I plan to take the boat, if I have bought one.

I leave mine on a mooring here in Maine for most of the summer with no bottom paint. I haul it every three weeks or so to clean it. I do not have any growth or staining. In my opinion two weeks is fine. Especially if you're using frequently.

How long in the water?

Feejer,

Had a glass boat in the water 10 days, 4 different trips, on Pond Island (just accross the bridge east of Pirate"s Cove) with a build up of very tiny barnacles on the hull and out-drive and especially the zincs. When back on the trailer for a day or so, a garden hose with brush took them off the hull. A little gritty from the tiny shells that formed so I learned to rinse the brush with the hose, not back in the wash bucket. No real problem with scum or discoloration.

At Harker's for 5-6 days on many different trips--170 CC Triumph-- nothing. No barnacles. Had bathtub ring from water in marina when wind kept surface "stuff" pushed in. There are critters in the water as I do get barnacle growth on my zincs. Again, minimal that a bristle brush and water hose knocked right off.

Thanks for info Jim. Where do you fish on the Outer Banks. Have you taken your 17CC to or around OI?

Feejer,
I had my 170CC at Oregon Inlet last August. We fished mainly the channels around the Bonner Bridge and had a great time. If you go there, be really careful about the sand bars. We went from 15 feet to 1 foot in .0001 seconds while trolling for Spanish Macks. Good luck.

Thanks Chuck, been their and done that. Last year I kept my Sea Hunt 202 at PC. Thought I would be smart and follow one of the charters out at 6:00am. Nothing like being 200ft behind a 50ft boat and having sand blasted up at you from their props. The channel was well marked, but the marks were off. The charter was stuck and needed to be towed off the bar.
