Stole my darn motor.

Would have used stronger langauge, but this is a family site. Well folks just go back to the house after meeting the Sheriff at our community Boat and RV Storage area. Seems some punk over the weekend needed a few boat motors. Cut a hole in the fence, and stole my Yamaha 40HP with 4 hours on it, and the guy who owns the John boat next to mine. Man am I ticked. Just had to vent. First mate is on the phone with insurance company right now to make a claim. Any Idea on how to secure it in the future? They just cut the control cables, unbolted it and ran. Thanks for your time. I feel a little better now.

Dave

That really sucks. I feel for you, do you have anyway of keeping the boat at your house? Hit all the local marine shops and give them the serial # to the engine. Scum bags

Dave,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. It is a shame that we have people who don't want to work for what the need or want.

Good Luck with the insurance company.

Dave,
I'm sorry to hear about your loss. A thief is just about the lowest scum on earth! The smaller the motors the more chance of theft. I think I've seen some sort of locking type nuts similar to the kind used on expensive auto rims available at boating stores. Makes it a little more difficult for the average thief, which is usually not the brightest star in the sky!! Good luck on the insurance claim.

Man...that really bites!!! You might try one of these in the future:
http://www.boatersworld.com/product/367970019.htm

I had to remove one from a friend's boat that he lost the key to and it was a royal pain in the "sit down part". It will not keep a determined thief from getting it but may make the lowlife try for an easier target. Sorry to hear about your loss.

Depending on the weight and ease of installment-uninstallment, maybe keep the motor at the house. Might be able to get an inexpensive hoist at HarborFreight.com or somewhere like that. Otherwise, the keyed nuts sound promising.
Sorry for your loss.

Sorry about your loss I know it goes way passed the money loss!
However just a thought, where is boat now, many times if an area like that is hit once they will hit again on things they saw but could not get at that time. Also try to remember anything in boat that they may have seen to link you to boat ie: address, keys, etc.
Again I am truly sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear about the theft of your motor. I've been down that road myself and it took a while for the insurance company to settle. Hopefully it won't take as long for yours.

Thanks for the responses. Pit Bull crossed my mind last night. Insurance adjuster coming in the morning. I like the bolt lock link, I will look into that. There was nothing else on the boat, not even a cooler. I made a flyer, and went by the local dealers today. One is regestering it with Yamaha's warrenty database, in case the scum bag tries to get some warranty work on it, it will pop up as stolen. I thought that was real nice of them. Even though community rules forbid me to keep it in my driveway, I will until they get better security. Again thanks for the "love" and good ideas. It sucks but worst things could have happened.
