Cutting / Drilling

What is the procedure or is there any chemical that must be used around the raw area once you cut a hole or drill in the hull. I had a sales rep. tell me something about needing to coat the drill holes with some sort of solution after you cut through the hull.

Any info on the this?

Blessings

I've never heard of this before. What purpose would the solution perform? It's just plastic, after all.

Could the saleman have been talking about "elastomeric"? Any new installations that have screws or holes should be sealed against water intrusion with elastomeric sealant by Rue. There are lots of threads on this process, as well as how to seal unused holes by melting or welding them shut with hull material, either powder or solid welding rod.

You could probably benefit from doing some research on those subjects before tackeling any major projects. One of the better benefits of this web site is all the accumulated knowledge that has been saved and cataloged for new owners to use.

If you tell us what it is you are planning on doing, I bet we can help you out with where to look or additional advice on how to do it correctly the first time. Many of us had to go through the try it and see method as we were pioneering many of the installs and modifications on the various models of Triumph boats.

Let the information flow. Codfish

OK, will above and below water line hull caulking stay put to fill around my Transducer cable? I drilled high on transom and passed cable through and caulked it and then put caulk on a stainless cover and mounted that over the hole as well. Should this be sufficent?

Thfireman,
As long as the "caulk" was elastomeric by Rule it should be sufficient.

Yes you do. To our knowledge the only sealer that bonds to Roplene effectively is RULE Elastomeric.
