Yes, the jack plate helps, though not on plane unless you have a tunnel hull. At lower speeds, you can raise the engine and run with the prop up above the bottom of the boat, but once you pick up speed, that prop needs to be down in the flow. True tunnel hulls draw water up to feed the prop, and run well in shallows. Alas, that again precludes deep vee hulls. It all depends on what you want to do. Ideally, it would be nice to run full speed with no running gear hanging down, but you'd need a jet boat or tunnel hull to do that. Maybe a surface drive would be close, but that's not available on an outboard. If you're looking at 4x4 boats, check out GoDevil. They have yet another approach to all terrain aqua power.
