Registration number removal

I have to change the registration numbers on my 190 Bay. Is there a simple way to remove the existing? I would prefer not to scrape if possible for fear of marking the hull.

Shoot, I have a hard enough time just keeping mine on the hull! Ha-Ha...
  • Thump them with a pressure washer and they should peel right up. That seems to be how I loose one of my letters from time to time when I am not watching what I am doing like I should
  • I would then very carefully use a scraper razor blade to remove what the pressure washer does not knock off. And to keep from cutting the hull one just needs to you the correct amount force (don't ape on it) and hold your mouth just right while using the razor blade to clean it up the rest of the way
  • I would then use to acetone to clean up any left over glue then let that dry, and then use the correct 3M primer to apply the new set

I don't know what was used to put them on, but they are not even loosened with a shot from my pressure washer (2500 psi). What do you think about heating them?

I went thru this, but it was several years ago. I think I did use a heat gun, but do it carefully! have a putty knife in one hand and the heat gun in the other, they should peel right off once the heat gets to em. I used a heat gun, not a torch, if you use a torch, be even more careful!!!!

The family hair dryer gets the call here and does a great job of loosening the numbers so they'll peel right off.

Heat gun did it, thanks. A bit of acetone to clean off the residue and the new numbers are on!
