Heating Ropelene

What works better for smoothing out scratches on Ropelene, 1875 watt hairdyer or a heat gun use to remove paint off walls? Might as well do a little boat work before the cold weather hits......if it doesn't come soon, might have to wet a hook.

Wow, Be careful with a heat gun, to much heat will turn the material brown. We sand light scratches [d/a sander] with 400 and go to 800 grit, then polish with a dry lambswool buffer. the heat generated by the buffing will bring the gloss back. Dick

So a soldering torch is too much? Had my heart set on one for Christmas, guess I'll get sandpaper. haha

If you do not have access to an air powered dual action sander, what type of sander would you suggest?

An electric D/A works good also.
