How was the Southport Tourney?

I got sent out of town on business, and when I came back, I thought there'd be a thread from some of the participants. Did it get stormed out? I know the weather was tricky on the coast this weekend (dry here, of course).

Ok, I finally found it tacked on to the bottom of a thread in Admin Announcements section. I thought there'd be a lot more chatter and excitement from other participants. Glad to hear the weather didn't beat it down though.

I think we were all tired! I hope we'll have some more pictures to add in the next few days though. Here is a link to my posts about the weekend:

The fishing was terrible and the weather turned bad. When a 7 pound fish wins and only one other fish was caught in the king division, thats bad. Bait was hard to find and even if you did find some you could not get anything to bite. My buddy and I had about 8 knock downs but could not keep them on the hook. I still can't see how a king can hit a 3 hook rig and not get a hook to stay in him. We did catch 2 small Dolphins, a 32" Barracuda and a 3 foot shark. Around 3 pm we where working are way in from the tower, back into the Cape Fear River Inlet and the weather turned on us. The sky turned black over the island and the wind kicked up. When we got about 4 miles from the inlet we seen three funnel clouds forming at the west end of the island and they looked like they where coming are way. Then the lighting started dancing across the sky and it started to rain. All we wanted to do then was get the boat back inside the river and into Southport. My 215 diden't let me down but it was the roughest ride that I ever had on her. After we got inside the river the rain came down in buckets. You could not see 10 feet in front of you. We made it to the ramp and was thankful that we did. My fishing buddy is from West Virginia and he told me that he didn't care if he ever did that again.
The evening before, we had the captain's metting and sign in. I got to meet some people that I hadn't meet before and seen some that I haven't seen for a while. We had some good hot dogs, cold drinks and a lot of good fellowship before and after the meeting. The only thing that seemed missing was more time to meet and talk to others. Seems that everyone had something to do or go. It would have been nice if we had 3 or 4 days to get to socialize more and fish. The awards dinner and meeting was great. Everyone got something and the food was good. The boys from Cameron Boys Camp where inspiring and the Baptist Children's home of NC made out very good thanks to Triumph Boat owners, Dealers, Manufacturer and Randy.
It was good to meet the ones that I did and sorry that I didn't get to meet all of you. May-be the next time. Thanks to everyone that participated, Bob

Afternoon thundershowers are like clockwork on the Gulf Coast and probably all the south. I kept a eye on the XM weather sat. and came in about 2PM.

The boat ramp was an exciting place to be when 20 boats at a time are circling like vulchers to get out of the water! You could just pull up a chair and pop a cold one and watch the excitement. Seriously, if the ramp piers could be twice as long and maybe a loading pier it would be about as good as one could imagine, it was just Saturday and alot of extra Triumph boats were there too!

Yeah, fishing was tough, I used every trick in the book to land a bluefish but I did mark alot of good bottom for next time.

We'll be back and hopefully get to socialize a bit more too.

ps my daughter had alot of fun climbing on all the new Triumphs Friday....did I miss the 235? or was it there somewhere?

Southport was good time. Weather was a little tuff sat p.m . Fishing was hard I think the recent weather has slowed it down. But never the less a great group of people and Blackbarry Marine did a wonderful job hosting the event. I will post some pictures of the Wahoo I caught what an awesome fish . I have had some big yellowtails before ,but the whoo takes the cake.
