Roplene strength
While doing my research into these boats I came across someone who claimed to be an engineer in the plastics industry. He stated that Plastics like Roplene lose up to 50% of their strength after five years, while the UV inhibitors used eventually breakdown and cause the boat to lose strength. Are there any engineers out there who can explain this? Any truth?
By the way, I drove 200 miles up to Michigan to see a 21' for sale, I was quite impressed with the layout, and am seriously considering purchasing it. |

Welcome cichlid. Glad you found this web site.
Using the "Search" feature at the top, and searching on the word "strength" we found the following posting. How long will Ropelene last????? Looks like this subject was covered in the past. I completely agree with MolarBoater who said "I will swap my hull out every 10 years for a free new one and I promise not to complain!" With my lifetime warranty, PLEASE sign me up for a new boat every 10 years. Good luck in your search for a boat. I know I am prejudice, but please look in the "Articles" section and read "Why our Family bought a Triumph". It may help in your decision making. Again, thanks for joining in.

Thanks Vic, that was pretty much the same question I just asked.
I still have to get used to a search function that actually works. I haven't been able to get it to work on THT for a long time. I'm going back up to Michigan in a couple of weeks for a sea trial. |
