A navagational tip

I have this nifty waterproof cell phone called a Gzone and it came with this great holster and it clips right on the edge of the windsheild out of the way and handy to get to in case the boss calls and wants to know if we're having fish for dinner.

Now these new holsters for cell phones don't have a catch or a snap to hold the flap closed, they use a small but very powerful rare earth magnet.

My compass is mounted top center of the console where I can see it properly, the holster magnet was strong enough to pull it off a full 20 degrees. OOOPS!

I now leave the nifty holster in the Jeep.

I had kind of the same thing happen to me...I mounted a handheld VHF radio too close to my compass and the magnet in the speaker affected the reading of the compass. Once I moved the radio, all was good again.
