Randy,
Thanks for the statement from Triumph. The letter stated that the alarm will still sound so not to worry until you get it fixed implied. If the alarm is like most motors, You will hear it even with the stereo wide open!!!! JD |

Made the fix myself...
After learning on the forum that the "kit" was a six inch wire, I called Triumph and asked if they could save me a 5 hour round trip to my dealer. They sent me the service bullitin and I made the repair in about 15 minutes. The hardest part was removing the gage cluster to access the back of the tach. The jumper Triumph uses has a male bullet connector on one end and a female bullet connector on the other that allows you to plug in 2 male connectors (I could not find one of these, so I made up a "Y" jumper with 2 single female connectors and just soldered the three leads together). You find the loose 'yellow with red marking' lead from the back of the tach, and plug it into one of the female ends on the new jumper. You then trace a yellow lead from one of the gages (I chose the voltmeter since it was close by) and follow it to where it plugs into the harness. Unplug the yellow lead from the harness and plug the male end of the new jumper into the harness where the yellow lead was removed. The last step is to plug the now loose yellow lead from the gage into the other female end of the new jumper and you are done (once you make sure the wires don't snag and put the gage cluster back in).
Now when I turn the key on, the overtemp and oil lights illuminate for a few seconds as a check. Sorry, but I buttoned it up before a thought about taking any photos. Hope this helps someone... Tony |

Wow
So basically it sounds like all they did was forget to connector the warning system to the ignition switch. (Yellow w/ Red Stripe= Start witch to Starter ONLY, plain yellow = DC Negative). Sad that dealers couldn't figure out how to do this without Triumph having to make a "Kit".

Bet it was Yamaha making sure it was done right and not that the dealers couldn't handle it. That's why Triumph had to issue a recall. One of those OFFICIAL lawyer driven things!

I installed the Warning light kit per the instructions. Very simple. You hook a yellow wire supplied by yamaha to the yellow wire with red tracer. You disconnect a yellow wire from a volt meter or fuel guage, install one side of the supplied yellow wire to the harness and the other side to the fuel guage. Should work? Mine doesn't.
I'll check it out tomorrow.

I checked the guage again. It is wired correctly. The yellow wire from the harness to the fuel guage works because the fuel guage works. I can only assume two things, there is something wrong with the lights or there is something wrong with the wiring to the engine.
So here are my question: Do the lights come on only when cranking the motor? Do the lights come on only when the switch is in the "on" position? Does the computer control the lights? My wiring diagram shows a 10 amp fuse inline with the buzzer. I'll try to locate it and report my findings.
