sealant help
Quick question: I just got a Bob's Machine Shop stabilizer plate and the directions say to apply a marine grade silicon adhesive when installing. Does anyone have any recommendations? I saw some 3M stuff at WalMart, but it didn't mention silicone, and it had a 7 day cure time. What does "marine grade" mean? Can I just use a good regular silicone from Lowes or Home Depot? Thank you in advance for your help.

If it is "Marine Grade" sealant, it will say so on the packaging. By stating "Marine Grade", it means it is able to be used for applications where there is constant exposure to water. Many sealants are made to just be exposed to water for a short time (like a rain shower) and may break down if constantly wet. Any type of sealant that states it is "Marine Grade" should work for your BMS stab plate...however, use only Rule (Sudbury) Elastomeric Sealant on the boat itself. That's the only stuff that will reliably stick to the Roplene. I hope this helped. Good luck.
