damaged t-top

I have a 2007 195cc with t-tops and much to my surprise found that the fork lift driver had damaged the front section where the canvas ties, it is acually pushed in quite far. The marina/dry storage are of course accepting full responsibility and I encouraged them to contact my dealer in Bluffton and the t-top manufacturer in Columbia. I told them to let me know when they decided what they wanted to do to make it right. Any practical experiences out there in dealing with damaged t-tops? Any insight will be appreciated.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the T-tops are clear anodized to prevent oxidation. If they take it to a Fab-shop and cut out and relpace the damaged section, the piece they replace plus the area near the welds will not be anodized. They may polish the area and maybe put a clear spray on finish on it. It will look good for a while but it will oxidize soon enough even if you aren't in salt water. I would want to know exactly how they plan to go about repairing it.

i guess your right about that rscott and the marina has insurance i would think.. so if they will get him a new one thats the way to go i was thinking about a fab shop that does nothing but t- tops we have them around here......and they anodized them to prevent oxidation. if he can get a new by all means get one. but i bet this is not the frist rodeo that the marina has been in when it comes to t-tops. and like everbody eles they will try to come out of the deal as cheap as they can smelling like a rose. good info rscott

longtimer and rscott when i got home this afteroon i had to check the oil in my boat i want to use it this weekend i also looked at the factory t-top, the welds have already started to oxidies. my boat is a 08 you can tell where the anodiztion was burnt off by the welding. the top was prefabed using anodized tubing then welded out with nothing done to the welds.so wether new or repaired i dont think you can get around the fact that oxidation will accure on the welds.
just wanted you to know this if you had to get it repaired wether than a new one. good luck

Much appreciated as far as the information provided, it gives me the chance to sound some what knowledgeable in dealing with the marina. When I talked with the manager I asked if the damage to t-tops was a regular thing, he advised to lights and antennaes but never a t-top. Said the driver has to be so far off that it just never happens. Perhaps that was said as I explained that if damage to my boat from putting it away was going to be a regualr occurrence then I might have to rethink the whole thing. Thanks again for the good infomration it is much appreciated.
