If you are talking about mold: I use a 50/50 bleach solution in a spray bottle. Let it soak for 10 minutes and spray off. That's it. It you want to scrub the area try Simple Green.

put your plugs in and pour a half bottle of mean green, royal purple, or just clorox in there. Add water and let sit for a couple minutes......... Drain into proper area/container, and then take the water hose and put it on jet spray and use that to basically scrub the parts of the boat that you cannot get to. Make sure that anything you spray into the baitwell is rinsed out very good! JB

I use my pressure washer, but I have heard that a bar of Lava Soap pitched into the bilge to area to slide around and knock the grunge free, also works well. Need to test that theory myself I though would never use bleach since I know what it can do to pumps and electrical connections...

Putershark, I just heard the Lava soap technique last weekend from a tournament bass fisherman who swears by it. He got the idea from another fisherman who uses it. Apparently, the pumice in the soap scours the grunge off as the wave action sloshes it around.

I just bought a bar to put in my bilge tomorrow; I'll give you a report on how it works after I come back from the Pamlico.

Report on Lava Soap:

It works like a champ!! My bilge went from black to looking rather clean in a matter of a few outings. One bar lasts a while, the first one's still down there slowly getting smaller. One collateral effect is a white spot on my driveway beneath the bilge drain where I park my boat.

I wash mine out after every outing, no need for the lava bar

Genelie, I am with you. Lots of fresh water in the bilge and thru the bilge pump after every outing. Call me crazy, but I just feel that salt water staying in a pump will just shorten its life.

Besides, with the boat stored in the garage, we sure do not want any foul odors. That would have the Admiral make this deck hand put the boat in proper shape fast.

I am okay on that part, my boat is at the opposite end of the property under a awning. But I have a problem with cats,, do not want to give them any reason to jump aboard.
