Question perfect boat

To me it is the perfect boat; a house full of neophyte boatowners and so the approach to every dock offers no pressure. The only problem is that a Triumph salesman at a boat show indicated to my beautiful bride that the plastic would virtually be maintenance free and consequently easily cleaned. To our displeasure, it seems that whereever we walk a stain is evident and has been impossible to clean using common boat detergent and a stiff brush and we have even tried Soft Scrub with Bleach and a stiff brush to no avail. Any suggestions? Chris; Florida east coast.

My suggestion is to relax and not get too crazy about keeping it spotless. There have been a number of threads regarding the fact that the plastic seems to have minute pores that trap dirt and are nearly impossible to get rid off. Most of us have learned to live with it. I have a brush that I use on the deck and most of the footprints disappear.

Simpe Green works great (undiluted) with a brush. Regular boat wash sucks as it is designed to be safe on a waxed gelcoat. We don't have wax on our hulls to why use it? As Fischer said, I've also become less worried about dirt - but still was her every two weeks and can get my 2002 deck pretty white with Simple Green.

As for washing your boat, people here have different methods, all of which are good. BUT!!!!! to keep those stains under control..such as those tiny black dots that you will be seeing.....A good pressure washer..such as a car wash place. Will do the trick. You will be wet, but your spots will be gone. A member posted that a while back. 2 weeks ago I tested his idea....And it worked. I was as wet as you can be, but the spots are gone for now. Remember do not be afraid to put that nozzel nice and close.

The guy's at my dealer use good old Tide with Bleach powder.
Clean and fresh as your laundry. Works pretty well the simple green works good but using full strength gets kind of expensive. I like the power washer idea. Everybody should have more toys around the house.

Smile

I also use the power washer. For general cleaning I suggest trying Greased Lightening. It can be used full strenght or diluted. I am very pleased with it and I think you will be too. Happy and safe boating

Yesterday we used our power washer for the first time on our boat.

According to my son, it was faster and did a better job than washing by hand with a buck of soapy water and a sponge. The trailer got a better bath that is for sure.

Drying the boat off took the same amount of time.

Looks like the pressure washer gets more use from here on out.

Been using a power washer since I got the 186 in 2001. Used the car wash for about 3 years and bought an inexpensive pressure washer last year.

Gets most of the stuff off, and that is all I care about. I'm not worried about the other unless i'm taking some of the ladies out, then I'll give her a real cleaning with the cleaning stuff mentioned.

Otherwise, go fishing and leave the waxing to the gel boys, who spend a lot more time waxing and fixing gel coat blisters. Me, I'd rather be on the water.

Osprey Vic - Drying the boat? Its plastic. It sits in the water. Glad you have a whole lot of time on your hands. I'm happy to get the salt off and the fish blood out.

Yes, my son does have time on his hands. In my case the boat is in the garage, and I sure do not want to slip and fall on a wet slippery garage floor.

Besides, removing the water spots just keeps her looking her best.
