19 or 21 ?

Hi, new to the forum. Been looking at 19 and 21 Triumph's and perusing the forum. I haven't found much in the area of handling, rough water characteristics or the problem of too much ultraviolet on the hulls. Any idea's or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks High Sierra

I can vouch from personal experience that the 210 handle rough water great. It broke me in on 6 fot seas banging at 18 mph. for what we were in the ride was great. The UV protection is built into the material.

What kind of water do you boat in?

I have the 190 Bay and like the ride. But when the weather gets snotty, I do sometimes wish that I had the 210. The 210 has higher gunnies and bow - but is only two feet longer (additional room behind the helm). Other benefits of the 210 include the ability to mount a t-top and electronics, etc. This can all be done on the 190, but it becomes pretty complicated/crowded.

I trailer my boat everywhere so the 190 is much more manageable that way. The 190 is also a better casting boat. The front deck is elevated with lots of room to stand/sit and cast from - like a bass boat.

The roughest water I go out in 3' chop. Here in the LI Sound, we don't usually get long-period swells that big - so I call it chop. The 210 could do better than 3'. Overall, these boats sit higher in the water and stay drier. But that said, they don't cut through the chop like something with more weight and dead-rise.

Inshore/close-to-shore = 190; Offshore/close-to-shore = 210

I have had zero visible reaction to UV rays on my boat - a 2002. Remember, these boats don't get waxed. So protection simply includes a cover. I just put mine under a tree all summer and cover it in the winter.

I 210 do not 210 want to 210 influence you 210 but I 210 have owned both 210.

Just 210 decide 210 what you want 210 to do.

re 210 cycle

Did I mention I liked the 210?

Own a 190Bay and fish the Gulf out of Panama City. Stay dry in 4 to 5 with 3+ sec period. The 210 would probably do better but then My Flats fishing would suffer. 190Bay - 11" draft versus 210 - 14" draft

Also love the fwd casting deck. Rate the 190Bay A+ for fishability.

It depends on the type of boating / fishing you do, and budget.

I have the 190 bay and fish the So. Cal. coast.
The 210 would be better suited here in open seas, the 190 handles better tight to the rocks and kelp.

What type of boating do you do in Reno???

I own a 190 bay and it is perfect for south Louisiana. I fish the inshore marshes and larger bays in this area and this boat handles both areas perfectly. Shallow enough to fish the marsh, but handles waves well enough to get out to the larger bays which can get pretty rough at times.
I've never fished out of the 210, but if you don't need a shallow draft boat, I would imagine that it would handle more rough water than the 190. Base your decision on your budget and which model best meets your needs.

I truly believe that you will be satisfied with the Triumph line, I know that I am.

I owned a 210 and now a 190. Like many of the guys have stated already, it depends upon which style of fishing you do the majority of the time. You may also need to take into consideration if your family is going to be aboard and what % of the time they will.

My Girls like haveing a porta potty aboard and the 210 had a great provision for such in the mega-hold. I think it was only used once though so that could and did become a moot point. My girls did not like going way offshore to fight the big ones (I was also love flats fishing) and that was another reason for the change (there were others)

Here though as I stated on another thread is what I found what was needed for the 210 to be a decent skinny water rig.

The 210 though can be made into a decent skinny water boat hull wise, but it has 4 short comings / issues depending upon which model you have and they are...

1. The bow rail needs to go which (in my opinion) makes it so much easier to handle the boat both in getting fish in and handling lines at the dock this with no real loss of safety.
2. No real front casting deck. I made one that I could drop in (I will find those pictures also) and it worked out well. The high bow on the 210 also gives one a very nice view of the flats since you are up so high so that was a plus.
3. No real provision for a front trolling motor and even the twin models that mount on trim tabs can't spin the boat around as fast a single forward unit.
4. What makes the 210 so fast and dry (its Deep Vee) also makes it rock and roll when 2 big dudes are up and walking around at rest or in certain sea states. Here again, right tool for the right job... The 210 is better suited for near shore and offshore work.

Hope this helps and enjoy which ever one you buy for they are nice riding boats for their respective uses.

Dave

19 or 21

Thanks for the input on these boats. I'm looking at 2 other designs as well but I have to admit the Triumph looks very good. I talked to the dealer that has the sale and he was extremely heplfull and totally informed on the designs. I will continue to keep up on the forum and do more research on my choices. Once again , thanks for the insight. High Sierra
