Warranty work questions

I apologize for the long explanation, but here goes.

2006 170CC bought new in March 07

Including the test ride, my boat has died three out of four trips when idling for more than three or four minutes. The one time it did not die, I never let it idle more than 30 seconds and moved through the no wake zones at a minimum of 1200 rpm. The last time it died, we bypassed the filter with no luck. Finally put the hose from the primer bulb directly down the fill hole and it got us home with no problems including a 10 minute idle for my guest while I waited in line at the ramp.
My dealer is over 400 miles away and is also the closest to me. I called Triumph customer service for some assistance. I was asked to check the vent hose. I removed and inspected it and reattached the deck fitting end and blew and sucked through the hose to check the fitting. No problems. When I called back to report this to customer service, I was told that there had been a recall on the fuel pickup previously and he had parts ready to send to me. I received the parts which were the plastic pickup tube with screen, barbed fitting, aluminum elbow block and aluminum anti-siphon valve.
I removed the old anti-siphon valve to get room to spin the rest of the assembly. The aluminum threads galled inside the aluminum elbow on the way out. Unscrewed the elbow about ¾ of a turn and saw that the nut on the tank bulkhead fitting was starting to move. Put a wrench on the bulkhead and unscrewed the elbow another ½ turn before it locked up.
Triumph customer service says that all warranty work must go through the dealer. I had suggested using a portable tank until I visit my dealer while on vacation at the end of August. Customer service thought that was a good idea, but would not authorize any expense on my part. They would also not authorize any local service repair.
Any suggestions for service away from the dealer? I’m not comfortable running all summer with the bulb hose shoved down the fill neck.

Thanks

There is a dealer closer than Lorain OH. There is a Triumph dealer in Elkhart Indiana. The are about 200 miles closer than Beaver Park. I dont know them very well as I still go to Bell marine in North Webster. They were a triumph dealer when I purchased my 210 in O3. I cant recall the name of the marina off hand , but they are pretty close to the indiana toll road in Elkhart.

Sorry.. I just tried to look up the name and they are no longer listed on triumphs web site as a dealer. there is a dealer in Kalamazoo MI that is only 86 miles from me here in Fort Wayne, that is closer than Beaver Park which is over 150 miles. Just a thought.

I tried the dealer search and the dealer I bought from doesn't make the three closest now! They are still close to where we vacation every summer. After I cut a 4.5" access hole in the transom well, I was able to get more leverage on the pickup tube elbow. I was either getting it out or going to remove a chunk of fuel tank. The bulkhead fitting turned about another half turn and then the aluminum threads on the elbow gave out and it came out. There was a split on the poly tube right at the barb. That is where the air was getting into the system at low speeds. I then compared it to the replacement part sent by customer service when they were "going above and beyond" for me. The new part is about 4" too short!
I sent a picture to my dealer along with the model and serial number off the tank asking them to see about getting a new part for me to install. I should not have been suprised. The circuit breaker sent from customer service (same person I had talked to) via my dealer to replace the dead-on-arrival baitwell pump breaker had different terminations.

ya gotta love long distance parts orders. I have gotten wrong parts for things even locally. I like to see the picture in the parts catalog be for ordering
if possible, If I cant see the actual part and compare it to the dead part in my hand.

Wow, what a delima. I am so lucky as to live only 2 miles from my authorized dealer. I cant imagine being 200-400 miles away. At some point it seems worth the risk of learning all you can and then making the repair yourself. Easy for me to say since I cannot see this happening in my near future. Man I feel for you guys and I wish there was a better option for you.
