Trolling Motor Shaft Length

I am looking at adding a Rip Tide 80 Lbs. CP/AP to the Bow of a new 190 Bay, and I was wondering if a 54" shaft is long enough or if I should go with the 60 inch? I fish in windy areas, and I didn't want to "Buck" the motor out of the water or even near the surface - cavitation, Red-line the motor, etc... I'd like to get the 54" if it will be ok... Any help?

I have a 51 inch on my 170CC and it has room to spare...no cavitation in waves at all. I'm sure the 54" would do nicely.

When I bought my boat the dealer mistakenly put a 60" RT 80Lb on my boat, it is more than necessary. A 54" would be plenty

I checked with the factory on this and here is their response:
Quote:
Here are the motor specs that we recommend for the models we carry that we offer trolling motor panels on. If you would like to go bigger that is fine and we have only tested 12V systems but 24V systems are absolutely usable.

150/170's 42" shaft 36lbs. thrust
190's 50" shaft 42lbs. thrust
191 50" shaft 44lbs. thrust

So 54" should be fine.

I could be wrong (it happens a lot ) and I'm sure the factory guys know what they're talking about but a 42" shaft on a 170CC seems a little short. I'm sure it would be coming out of the water with any kind of wave action. I wouldn't put anything less than a 48 inch on the bow of a 170CC. Of course, that is just my opinion based on my experience with my boat and the water I fish...for what it's worth.

I use 54 or 60, forgot, RipTide 101 36 volt on 190 Bay. I'd rather be a little long vs short.
