Question Used Boat, What to look for. PLEASE HELP

Ok I have decided I want to go with the Used 2005 190 Bay with the 115 Yamaha F/s. I need to know from you owners out there what I need to look for in a pre owned boat, are there any red flags? When I was looking at the boat on the trailer, the hull almost looked warped at the stern , but only slightly. The guy says he has kept it on the supplied Triumph trailer since he bought it. He said that he was concerned with that same thing when he bought the boat new, but after he looked at all of the triumph's at the dealership he noticed the same thing in all of the boats. Please Help me, I am so ready to pull the trigger on this and get out on the water with the rest of you.

Smile First Question, have you ever owned a boat before?

Hi Jesse,

I can't give you info on long term ownership of Triumphs. Others in this group have more time in their boat than I.

What I would do first is go to a Triumph dealer and look at the new boats. The way they look, features, etc. will help you when you look at the used boat.

1. Is the boat clean? Are there rust stains? Does it look like it's been taken care of?
2. How many hours are on the motor? Is there a maintenance log?
3. Was the boat kept in a garage or outside? On a trailer or in the water?

From what I've seen so far, the hull holds up well for many years but the accessories, like all parts in the marine environment, will break down.

Perhaps go to a library and check out a book on buying a used boat and what to look for.

Hope this starts you off on the right track.

Jesse,
What BarryB said,Have you owned a boat before????? If you have then you know how a boat should perform on the water. If you are concerned about the warped look of the stern (and you should be concerned) then take the boat out and bring as many people and gear as you think you would normally take with you.Take it out on the water and run it like you normally would. Check every switch, lights, bilge pump, baitwell pump, etc.Take your heart out of it and use your head. If it don't feel right or handle like you expect then do not buy it. Make sure that the lifetime hull warranty is transferrable. Call Triumph with the hull number and ask them. Good luck!!!
