What to choose 15CC or 17CC?

I would like to fish small freshwater lakes and also Raritan Bay that is located in NYC near Verrazano Bridge. If someone has experience in these waters and could please let me know your opinion on the 150CC vs. 170CC Triumph I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

Hi Gary-i Fished The Raritan Bay Off Atlantic Highlands For Many Years. I Now Live In So. Florida And Have The 150cc. You And One Other Person Should Do Alright But Not More Than That In The Raritan Bay.

The 150CC and 170CC are pretty much the same boat with the 150 missing the two extra feet from behind the helm seat. If the price is comparable, go with the 170CC for the extra room and larger engine...I've never heard someone say the wish they had a smaller boat or less power.

Good luck with your search.

I started out my purchase process by pricing out a 150cc. Went to the show room and the 170cc was right next to the 150cc. Got on both and really appreciated the extra 2 feet in the stern. OK. So its the 170cc. I bought it pending the water test the next day. While in the showroom the next day, my wife sat in the 195cc. She liked that it was wider and the gunnels were higher. When we went out to water test the 170, they had strategically placed a 195cc right next to it. They had the keys for the 195 right there! So I tested that first. Then tested the 170 and guess which one I chose.

It is the job of smart leaders to help the Admirals make good sound decisions.

I have a 170cc and fish the long island sound, jamaca bay, and some lakes in NY.. I do encourage thr 170cc it has been an amazing boat. I like the extra room that is offered. If you plan on doing any trolling as i think you will for stripers. The 170cc cock pit seat flips forward and allows ample room for sish fighting as the 150cc does not.

I have a 150CC, got it used from a dealer for 9k, I defiantly paid a premium for it from a dealer but it came fully loaded. The previous owner (only had one) added every option. It's a small boat and is pretty much maxed out with 3 people. Though it is a very fun, reliable little boat. Depending on your budget I would certainly consider larger if you can afford it. Like others have mentioned, no one has ever complained for getting a bigger or more powerful boat. Though with gas prices what they are, they may start to. I think in 3-4 years we'll probably upgrade to something in the 18 to 20 ft range.

Just to respond to mondo80 as I have the 150CC. The captains bench is reverseable on the 150CC also. The two boats are literally the same minus two feet in the rear and the 170CC is approved for a larger motor.

I am aware of the difference between the 170 and the 150. I was attemping to point out the lack of foot roome for fighting fish behind the capt. chaire in the 150. sorry if I was not clear.

Ah, roger that mondo80. Sorry I misunderstood. Yes there is virtually no room to stand behind the captains bench on the 150CC when the seat is reversed. We are able to fairly comfortably (YMMV) fish two off the sides of the bench, one port and one starboard, when the bench is reversed.

Test 'em both if you can. At least sit in them & move about some & imagine fishing with the usual partner(s). If price is not a significant issue, I think you'll choose the 170CC. Love mine!
