Can I tow Triumph 17CC with Hyundai Tucson 4 cyl FWD.

Can I tow Triumph 17CC with Hyundai Tucson 4 cyl FWD. Has anybody done it? I am looking to buy 17CC but do I need to change my car?

Thanks a lot,
Gary.

Smile Tow Tow Tow your boat...

Hi Gary,

Look in the owner's manual for towing specs. If the car can tow 2,000lbs or more you should be okay. You should install a transmission cooler.

I drive a 4 cyl. Toyota Tacoma. The truck is rated at 3,500lbs and I installed the transmission cooler myself. Purchased from Summit Racing products.

I've never had a problem pulling the boat up the ramp even though I don't have a limited slip or locked rear end.

The 170CC with motor, trailer, fuel and gear will weigh about 1,800lbs. One day, I'll get the setup weighed.

Good luck.

How steep and slippery is your boat ramp? Pulling it down the road I don't think you would have a problem, but the ramp is a different story. Maybe if you got a 50hp motor which is smaller and lighter. Worst case senerio you could always look into a marina slip.

From the factory:

The 17CC is 1100 lbs with out the engine, gas or gear plus\ 7-800 lbs for the
trailer. He should check his owner's manual for tow capacity or contact a
Hyundai.

Tough call. Looking at the '08 specs (2008 Hyundai Tucson Specifications - AOL Autos) it seems it's only rated to 1k lbs. If you do tow, do all the things that others are suggesting. Watch out for slippery ramps w/ a FWD, get a tranny cooler, take your time over high elevations, etc.
