215 Triumph

I am in the last stages of buying a 215 Triumph with the Honda 150 hp engine. Anyone else out there with this boat? If so, any comments as to performance - I will be using in Salt Water and am wondering how the "plastic" hull handles the seas. Is it too light or feel unstable?

Thanks

Gary, glad you found this web site. Please, or should I say PLEASE, start reading the Forums section on the 210/215 and the Articles.

Many folks on this web site have already commented on the rough conditions these boats will take. As most folks say, and I agree with their statements, the boat will take more than my body wants to take. The boat keeps saying keep going and my body says slow down or stop.

Again, PLEASE read what others have posted AND take a test ride in the worst weather you can.

Like Vic said, it isn't the boat that's the weak link...it's the "nut behind the wheel" that will fail first. The boats can handle it...go for it.

Gary-

I have a 2006 215 with a Yamaha 150. It does very well in the ocean. I fish San Diego and the local kelp beds. This weeked I had my family on board and feel very confident in its performance, my wife was driving the whole time as I was busy fishing. The 150 seems to have all the power I need. I was traveling at 25mph on the way out and 30mph on the way in. It will top out at 42mph. The biggest thing is that it is very efficeint in gas, especially now with the prices. Certainly the bigger boats can get out there faster and handle bigger seas, but all in all it has been a great boat for me. The ropelene lessens the impact of the waves.

I found this site prior to my purchase last year and it was invaluable in my decision. Plenty of information and anything that came up was expected because I read it here first. My boat is in the east coast bay and front and can handle it no problem.

I just topped 20 hours on my 215 with the Honda 150(my second boat with that basic hull, 1st 210 Logic) and had it last week in Lake Ontario in everything from flat to 2 foot chop with my wife very comfortable. I also use in the Chesapeake bay with no problems very stable. I have found that this boat is able to go places that I am not so there is a great comfort in knowing that there is a broad safety margin between what I am willing to be in and what the boat will handle. Performace is well documented here and I will suggest trim tabs as it helps greatly with load management.
