Too Much Information

Have concerns about registering...started the process until I realized that TOO MUCH INFO that is personal is required, a first that I have never seen in any forum of any type; as a result, I stopped the process. I am also concerned that the forum will be closed to visitors soon, and I find that to be a shame for future owners who depend on this site for important info so as to make an intelligent buying decision. Thirdly, I am not comfortable with the mandatory pay membership, which again, requires personal info I am not comfortable with providing to an internet entity that I cannot visit personally should there be issues with my account. Of course, an admin/owner can do whatever it is they wish, and unfortunately, I am not one who just places blind faith with an internet interprise such as yours. That's it...I'm sure you'll do fine.

Hi Capt. and thank you for voicing your concerns. Let me address them.

In January of this year we made the decision to limit activity in the forums only to Triumph/Logic boat owners. The original intent of this forum as evidenced in our name is to be a place for Triumph and earlier model Logic Boat owners to share ideas, modifications, photos, etc. In the past three years we had hundreds of members register that did not own a Triumph but were shopping for a boat. They might make one or two posts then we never heard from them again. And usually the posts were questions that had already been asked before and the answer could have been found with some searching in the forums. Folks shopping for a Triumph ARE important to us as we want our Triumph Owners community to grow and thrive. A growing Triumph Boats company is a good thing for Triumph owners. So I had some custom programming done to our forum software to enable a "Visitors" forum where someone like yourself could post a question without registering an account. Over time we will also create a "Frequently Asked Questions" page compiling answers to the FAQ's regarding Triumph Boats. These two features should accommodate any shoppers seeking information on these boats, without activating a registration and keeping our forums for owners only.

So, first the information that is required is only used to verify boat ownership with Triumph Boats and to communicate with our members. Each member chooses whether their location shows up on our Google Maps and personal information is not seen by anyone except the Administrator and Triumph Boats. By having contact information in our system, if an issue arises with a members boat we can contact Triumph on their behalf.

Second, we do not intend to close the forums to visitors. That would render my investment in creating a Visitors forum null.

Thirdly, creating and operating this site has required thousands of hours of labor and dollars. It was a free forum up until January of this year. Triumph Boats is paying for the first years subscription for any new boat purchaser and until the end of September a free 1-year subscription has been offered to existing owners. If $15/year is too much for a boat owner to pay to participate in this forum then that is their decision to make and I welcome any discussion among our members in that regard. If a lower rate will make the site available to more folks then I am fine with that.

I believe I have earned the respect and trust of many folks over the past four years in developing this site as well as my NCangler.com website. I am not a perfect person but I do try to be fair and to maintain my personal integrity. I am attempting to provide a service here which at the same time is a product that I hope to recoup a portion of the time and materials that I've put into it. For those that it has value to I am grateful. I am also grateful to the members that participate here and the moderators that have tirelessly contributed their time and efforts as well.

If you own a Triumph or Logic Boat we welcome your participation. The first year is free and you can evaluate the value to you beyond that.

Blessings,
Randy

Randy,
This site helped me decide to buy a Triumph back in 2004 and my second one in Nov. 2007.I know that it has helped tons of people with the same decision and then helped the same people afterward with modifications. It may have even saved lives with the abundance of information pertaining to safety that has been discussed here often. Well worth my $15.Thanks,
John D.

To Randy and all other Members of TriumphOwners.net.

I have had the honor of being a Moderator since this web site opened and as long as Randy can use me, I hope to contribute. I am not paid. I volunteered to try to read every posting and to help keep this a family oriented web site so that our wife’s and children will never be embarrassed and will feel welcome.

This was a matter of choice – my choice. I have NEVER met Randy face to face like many of you, but as a Moderator I have listed to his opinions and thoughts as he struggled at times to be as open as possible and as fair as possible. Randy has also needed to be firm in his goals of keeping a web site that was free of petty bickering, and open to boys and girls of all ages.

Randy has created a place where we have the opportunity to learn from each other. It has saved many of us lots time and money as we learn from others. I know that the information here has greatly helped me make my boat more enjoyable for our family.

As an old ex Navy Radarman (scope dope too many), I can appreciate your concerns. However, previous Triumph Boat Owner web sites that were free and with no Moderation and no control are not on the internet any more. They disappeared due to petty bickering and needless disputes that got out of control.

Maintaining a web site like this is not cheap. As such, we all have a personal choice to make – do we spend our $15.00 to keep this web site open for our use, or do we let it die. It is my personal hope that we will keep this site open for many many years.

The last time I checked, it was still a personal decision to join this site. Nobody is holding a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to part with their $15.00 and become a member. Don't want to join, O.K., don't join. Want to join...welcome aboard. You get a full year to check it out...I wish I had that option for a lot of other things that cost a lot more than $15.00.

Shoot, if I don't spend my $15.00 here, I will no doubt blow it on something foolish like fishing lures...and they will end up in a tree or hung up on some hidden monster of the deep never to be seen again.

The way I see it, Randy, you provide a healthy choice. I could get all upset about losing a $15 lure or I can log on here and maybe learn something or get a smile. Smiling leads to lower blood pressure and longer life. Shoot, Randy, you may very well be saving hundreds of lives just by having this site.

Randy for President.

OK...kinda got carried away there but you get my drift.

Now I'm off to buy fishing lures.

NC, you should charge $25/year. This site is worth much more than $15 and your help with my boat has been priceless. Keep up the good work and we will all keep contributing for everyone's benefit.
