Paint

Hello;

I am thinking about buying a 2005 17 foot Trimuph and painting same for duck hunting. Does anyone have any experince with painting these hulls? Any thoughts? Also is a 60 hp 2 st. yamie adquate power for this boat?

Thanks for any information.

Jack,
Are you talking about the 170CC or the 17' skiff?

If it's a 2005, then it can't be the skiff. At any rate, a 60 hp would be fine for pushing a 17 footer. I can't help you out with the paint but sure would like to see a picture if/when you do it. BTW...take the boat for a test ride before you buy it to make sure it has the power to do what you want. Also, Triumph made a Sportsman model a while back (not sure of the years) with the duck hunter in mind...you may want to look around for one. As a bonus, they were already green. Just a thought.

Tight lines.

I agree with Chuck, it can't be a skiff, and the 60hp will work. This may help as for painting it.

I've put bottom paint on mine. There is a procedure you need to follow to get paint to adhere that involves roughing the surface up with a sander, running a torch over it to flame treat, applying 3M 9400 "sticker primer", and then painting. It's a big job just for the bottom... doing the top-sides would be a huge job and it would be difficult to prepare every nook & cranny. If you don't prep well, the paint will not stay on since the plastic surface is so slippery.

Just my opinion, but if you want a Triumph hull for hunting, get a Sportsman model which is already molded in a drab green.

There are dyes for vinyl and plastic that i think would work great. Rather than putting a coat of paint and hoping it will adhere the dye will penetrate the plastic much like dyeing fabric. I am far form a expert on the subject but have talked to a few companys about the procedures for doing it.

They can try looking at this company, but we have not tested dying the

Mold In Graphic Systems

They have had some success in having products that will stick to the PE.
