Tilt problems

The 115 Yamaha 4 stroke on my Triumph has been having trim problems. When I am riding all of a sudden the motor will start trimming up on it's on. The only way to make it go back down is to use the manual button on the motor, the button on throttle will only hold it in postion when you push the down button but as soon as you let go it starts trimming up. There doesn't seem to be any particular rhyme or reason as to when this occurs. Any ideas?
Mike

mike its sounds like you have a bad trim button on you throttle and its getting stuck in the up mode and when your are riding the bounding of the boat is engageing the button. you might try to spray the button with some contact cleaner or wd40 or penetrating oil. there is some kind of spring in the contact that is most likey broke and is not letting the contact release or the contact might be rusted holding the contact in.......

Hey guys, Chad at Merritt Marine.

Glehave, pretty much hit it on the head. The problem is probably water penetration in the trim switch at the engine. Unplug the trim switch at the engine and see if you still have the problem.
