When I'm ready to backup for any reason, I get my trusty rubber bungee cord and insert into the hole to stop the pin movement. TRAILER BRAKES ARE NOW LOCKED OUT

Of all the trailer issues I have seen, this is the best idea ever. Everyone has the same problem when backing up. This solves the problem in the most simple fashion. I love this idea and have done it to my trailer.

Hey,

I thought I was the only one with this problem. Never heard of any other complaints. My other boat trailer has hydraulic quick disconnect in which I disconnect the brake line before backing up. I even went as far as calling the manufacturer (Attwood) . Said to the tech there that is was a poor design and that they should think of a mechanical lock-out, similar to mine minus the bungee. He said that if they incorporated this in the design that people would forget to release the mechanical link for towing mode thereby the brakes would not function...

Needless to say, I don't agree with his train of thought...So I came up with my own fix to the problem...

Great Idea!

I hated that thing back when we had our 210 cause I had to back the boat "uphill" to get it in the parking spot. Now (thankfully) I don't brakes on my 190 trailer so it is not an issue.. I still would like to see the factory sell 210 /215 trailers with a better system like electric disk brakes instead.

The trailer's wiring plug should have 5 prongs. The fifth prong hooks up to the back-up lights. When you put your vehicle in reverse, this dis-engages the brake mechanism. If wired correctly, you should be able to back up without the brakes kicking in and then go forward and still have the brakes working as usual.
